Do you tip for the holidays? I have to admit I don't. Small town...I get my hair done about 3 times a year and never the same person, and I tip at the time I pay. I actually have never even really seen my garbage man. The free newspaper is tossed out mysteriously some time during the 24 hrs in a day, once a week. I don't see the need to tip any of the above for the holidays.

Tip if it makes you feel better. If it's an obligation, then don't. Fact is you probably won't get a tip from anyone, so there's logic in saying why tip anyone else just for doing their job?

Or you could do it because it's the charitable thing to do.

Up to you.

I can understand your "never see them, never talk to them" people, but they still do you a service. I live in an apartment now, and never see my garbage people, I don't even hear them.

However, I tip always and extra at this time of the year. Especially hairdressers! I make it a point to get my hair done around the holiday so I can thank this person for doing a wonderful job on my hair. And I thank them with a good tip.

Feeling extra generous during the holiday, I over tip at restaurants and the like. I don't have a paper person, but I do have someone who comes and cleans the foyer in our building. I made them cookies this year and my mail person who always hands me my mail when it's too large to fit into the mailbox, got a gift card this year.

It never has to be alot, and they are always grateful. Happy Christmas!

I wouldn't tip any of the above. I have had the same hairdresser almost 10 years and last year was the first time I even got her a christmas gift.

I think in a case like yours I would do the same. I tip a little extra because I have had the same hair dresser for years, I know my postman pretty well, etc. I don't think you are being rude by not tipping extra.
