Stress can play a big part in what your body does. My doctor has told me the bright red is more normal than the dark. Dark just means it is old blood. I think you'll be OK, however as with anything, consult your doctor if you have worries at all.

Our bodies are changing every single day of your life. So, if this period seems different, that can be normal.
Unless you hare having pain that you would rate at a 8 or above out of 10 right now. I would say you are okay. Also, watch the blood. If it becomes more "flowing" go. You should start to see a change to take you back to a more "normal" period soon. I would say at least by later in the day tomorrow. If you are still having this much pain and the blood is bright red. Call you Dr.
Are you good about getting your yearly checks? Do you watch your sweets intake. Your most likely okay, but do keep an eye on yourself. Every once in a while we are thrown a curve. Be good to you. Put a heating pad on your abdomen and watch some good movies and drink lots of water. Eat greens (salad type foods) and it may not hurt to take a vitamin once a day. We seldom get the iron and such in our diet that we need. We know our own bodies best. A good Dr will listen to his patients. Be sure to listen to yourself too.

The bright red blood during menses usually occurs at the beginning of your cycle. This is completely normal. Your body is sluffing off cells from your uterus and the blood is fresh. As you progress through your cycle the blood tends to become darker because it is older. The nausea that you are experiencing is completely normal, along with cramps. When the uterus contracts and swells it can cause various sensations in the abdominal area.
If you have never had bright red blood during your menstrual cycle this could be occurring due to some kind of hormonal/medication changes or stress that your body is experiencing. If you have recently changed a BC method this could trigger a change in your menstrual cycle, as well. Break through bleeding while on the pill, more than one menstrual cycle per month, or continual excessive bleeding (risk for anemia) is cause to see your physician. Hope I have been some help.

Periods fluctuate and will for as long as you have them.
Mine are usually 3-4 days light no cramping... But every once in a while I'll have one that is just unbearable,, vomiting/nausea, horrible cramps, 5-6 days... you just never know.
If the nausea persists or if the period only lasts for 1-2 days I would take a pregnancy test in about a week.
You'll be fine!

Cramping with your period has no rhyme or reason, sometimes you will cramp other times you won't. Same thing with the flow, a lot of things affect your period, like health, stress, sex life, medications, physical activity and so on. If you are really concerned check with your health care provider, he/she can put your mind at ease. I wish you the best. Happy Holidays.

Edometriois. Thats not good. My period is a light flow for three days with no cramps or anything. However, one time I took Midol and that stuff made me so shakey and nauseous.

IF YOU ARE HAVING SEX, YOU MIGHT HAVE HAD A MISCARRIAGE IN THE FIRST WEEKS. THAT'S HOW IT IS THEN. IT HAPPENED TO ME LAST JANUARY AND I WAS REALLY FEELING LIKE **** THE FIRST DAY- CRAMPS, NAUSEUS, BRIGHT RED BLOOD. YOU BETTER GO TO YOUR OBGYN. OF COURSE, IT MIGHT BE SMTH ELSE OR NOTHING SIGNIFICANT AT ALL- LIKE FROM THE CHANGING OF THE SEASONS, IF YOU TOOK MEDICINES RECENTLY ETC. DON'T PANIC- GO GET CHECKED.
