Ouija boards were always children's games, and kids, girls mainly are the ones who play, take the questions and answers seriously for as long as the birthday party or slumber party lasts and then that's that. Everyone goes home and forgets about it. It is some ridiculous parents who make a big deal about it. Stop reading things into a game where there is nothing to be read.

The way a ouija board works is through the power of suggestion. The expectations of the users cause them to move the planchette to expected letters. From wikipedia; "Skeptic and magician James Randi, in his book An Encyclopedia of Claims, Frauds, and Hoaxes of the Occult and Supernatural, points out that when blindfolded, Ouija board operators are unable to produce intelligible messages."
If you still believe there is something supernatural going on, then you must ask yourself if you believe it is demonic in nature. I can't answer that for you.
If you believe (as I do) that there is nothing going on here, it seems it would be ok. PROVIDED you sat down with her and played with it with her and explained to her how it was just a trick and not real. This also presumes she's a happy, healthy child with not a lot of drama going on in her life.

I agree with most of the postings - I would not get a Ouija Board for my child, and I wouldn't have one in my home.
When I was 12, my friends and I played with one - at a slumber party. There was definitely a sense of wrongness (I hate to say evilness- but it was certainly a darkness) And there were other things that occurred that night, that (if we were any other types of girls) could have led to more exploration of the "Dark Arts". This occurred 30 years ago, and I am still uneasy about our experience that night. I think your instincts are correct - The ouija board is more then a game - it's a portal.

No, I would not let my child have a Ouiji board. It could be just a game, but on the other hand it might not be. The are stories that go both ways. I have family members that it has worked for. And a spirit has crosed over from using it and decided to stay in her house for awhile. Now my family member is in tune with the "other side" so that may have helped, but you never know. On the other hand you may not believe in any of that sort of stuff, and if you don't then it might not matter.

It's all about psychology. The Ouija board is just a game, with no real connection to the supernatural. If you think that it might be, you could freak yourself out. Your 7 year old daughter is probably too young ( apparently a lot of adults are too ) to realize this.

There are so many theories about ouija boards, I have searched the internet and found some website for you to look at... If it's the actual spiritual ouija board then I would say no.... A 7 year would have nightmares if anything happened and could affect her for the rest of her life.... I have a 7 nearly 8 year old and a nearly 6 year old... I wouldn't let them play with such thing as I know it'll affect them by, the scariness of it all....
However I have found that their are talking ouija boards available on Ebay.com.... If it's these then I would ask more from the teacher that bought it in....
Ok it's educational, I suppose, you can't stop them from finding out things but to expose this to that age group. But then again they're exposed to killing games, shooting games on Xboxs, Playstations on the News etc.... I suppose is good in one way the younger they are to learn about things is sometimes better, as curiocity hasn't really kicked in yet... They older the child then maybe they'd dabble in it more.... As long as the child is sensible and maybe you're around when she plays it, may it'll be different.... Maybe check out if the library has one or information on them.... Some libraries in some countries loan out games, dvds, cds as well as books....
It's all down to your beliefs I think, but spirits are prone supposedly if you believe or not to be more prone to children than adults.... So would you really want to expose your daughter if it's all true... If you believe that much then would you expose your daughter to evil in any form.... Me neither....
If she keeps going on about it like most kids do eventually they'll either forget about it... Or I would in this situation tell her they're expensive and if she wants one she can save up for it with her pocket money.... After a few weeks of saving she'll soon come around to something else.... If she's anything like mine as they want it now and not have to wait for a while to get it.....
Whatever you decide to do supervise her if you do get one as these things can get out of hand.....
Best of luck
I tried a ouija board when I was about 12, it scared me to bits, I was with a few older kids and it was frightening.... We burnt the board and buried it in the garden are we played one night..... I know I was only 5 years older than your daughter but 5 years older is enough of an imagination to have when you're sleeping.... If I was scared just think with the imagination she's got what she could dream about....

Well i'm a child. and im into blood and dead people, but even I WOULD NOT want such a thing. That's really bad, because i love blood and scary stuff. Ive had many nightmares after playing with it for 10 minutes. Im sure if you tell her "no." she'll be mad/ disapointed for a little bit, but then she'll go on with life. This is only if you believe in such spirits. Tell her to watch "the 6th sense" to show her an example.

An Ouija board is certainly not a child's play, so avoid by all means for it can be dangerous if misused, knowingly or unknowingly.
