The fire dept and police dept do not offer this service any longer. I have 43,000 miles on my car and I dont have a roadside assistance program.

I forgot all about this: Call the dealer and tell them you need a new key made. They will ask you a few questions (just to make sure you own the car) and then they can just make another key for you.

I'd do what others have said and try your auto club first but if you do try the coat hanger be careful! You could end up with a costly repair bill if you break the connector thingy inside the door, they are usually made of plastic. I used to have to open new car doors all the time where I worked and we used a sort of home made slim jim. Most of the time it worked just fine but sometimes that little plastic piece would break then you'd have to call a locksmith to open/fix it.

If it doesn't have an alarm there is something I've done before that works. Get the end of a fishing pole, or a long stick. Then get like anything strong that u can wedge between the the weathering on the door and the car. Then go get something that's wider than what ever u just wedged between the car and the door's weathering. Then use what u had used to pry the door open, enough that u can get the wider anything in between the door and the car. take out the NOT as wide thing. Now the bigger thing should be making a little gap between the car and the door. Now u go get a stick or the end of a fishing pole and push the unlock on the lock, if u have an alarm this will work, but your alarm will go off at one point, it'll go off for sure when u unlock the door. If u don't have electric locks still try this if it won't work use a rope with a lope on the end instead of a stick and get it on the door handle and pull up till the door opens. I wouldn't try this on like a BMW or anything real fancy.

Call a car dealer with your key code or VIN # they can make you a key but you will need proof of ownership. If you bought the car from that dealer it should be easy enough, then you will have a spare for the next time you lock yourself out, sounds like it is a habit anyways. If your car has a trunk release inside the car and you didn't lock all the doors just use the inside release. If you don't have a manual or power release you can try to fold down the rear seat if equipped that way or just remove the back of the rear seat. Don't put both sets of keys in the same place in the future. and find yourself a warm and safe place to sleep.

What kind of car?

First thing, try a coat hanger on a door that you don't use all the time, like the rear passenger side. Then if you do any damage to the internals you wont have to get it fixed right away.

Next, make a slim jim out of a coat hanger. You will need a pair of pliers. Get the hanger as straight as possible, about 2 feet long, and make a little hook on the end. The hook doesn't have to be big, smaller is better in this case.

Next, you will need something shaped like a wedge, tent stakes work well. Slide this wedge in between the rubber seal and your window glass far enough to see down into the door with a flash light. You will see a metal rod that connects to your locking mechanism, you will need to hook this rod with the hanger and pull it in the direction that unlocks your door from the inside.

If you have any problems keep adding to this question, I will check back in a little while. Good Luck...

yes after you gain access too your car go have a set of your keys made for it at a local key making place then give spare set too say your parents or if you have siblings near by your place then this way if you lock your keys in the car again at least they can come too where ever your locked out at and open it with the spare set of keys.

If the car has less than 36000 miles on it it likely has roadside assistance, which should include lock service at no charge. I'd call dodge customer service and at least ask.

Here is another thought, if somebody you know has roadside assistance program with their cell phone, the phone only needs to be present to receive service.

Call your local police or sheriff's department. Often the officers carry tools called "slim jims" and will unlock your car for you. If they don't have them or will not do it, try the fire department.

Are you a member of an auto club? If you are, it wouldn't cost you a thing.

Maybe you could charge the money for the locksmith, and when a paycheck comes in, you could pay it off. Or, maybe you could check into your insurance company and see if there's any chance they could help you pay for it.
