Like others here, I suspect you've been had.

Look up the company name on Google and see if there are any stories about them, good or bad.

Also, is there a limited company registration number on any of the paperwork you've had? (Limited companies are obliged to put their company number on their stationery.) If there is one, you could look them up on www.checksure.biz and check them out (ie are they creditworthy, do they file their accounts on time, have they got any county court judgments etc).

By the way, £88.13 = £75.00 + VAT so that *might* mean they are VAT-registered which means they are more likely to be a proper business. Or, they might just be scumbags pretending to be registered for VAT, and pocketing the £13.13 as well as the £75.00.

Good luck!

BBC TV's Watch Dog earlier in the year ran an item on the scams being operated by courier companies which require payment in advance against possible work. Seems to me that any company who needs you to pay them is hovering on the brink of scamhood. All you can do know is sit and wait and hope that you haven't been had but the likliehood is that you have!

It sounds like you live in Britain or something, not in the U.S. so it is difficult to understand exactly what you are asking.

Do not give up your current job until you have more reliable information. I am suspicious of any company that asks you to pay any money for a job unless it is a placement company. And even they usually don't ask for money until you have been placed.

Can you stop payment? If you can, that is what I would do. You can always explain it all if it is legit.

it sounds like a scam but wait a few days to see if the company follows up. legit businesses will always follow up.

I'd say any job where YOU pay THEM to work for them is a bad move - and many are scams. Sorry.
