Women who have adopted their babies and never been pregnant can lactate. It's definitely related to hormones, and to stimulation of the breast. If you're not using any form of nipple stimulation, I'd say it's solely based on your birth control. It's possible it could subside on it's own, but if it's bothersome to you, talk with your doctor about it and see if a different method of birth control would work for you.

I'm not entirely sure but i do remember watching a story on Discovery Health last year, about a couple who were adopting a baby from a surrogate mother and the adoptive mother said she had been taking hormones prescribed by a doctor to enable her to breastfeed the baby. I would suggest seieng your family doctor who may be able to either prescribe the hormones to you or perhaps refer you to an Ob/Gyn doctor who has more experience in this area. If you take the hormones and eventually start lactating, fenugreek is a very effective herb for milk production, as is fennel. I drank fennel tea by the gallon when trying to bring my breast milk in. Congratulations on your impending adoption! x

I guess you're right. Pills fool your body by thinking it's pregnant. You said you've been on the pill for 6 months now which is why you're lactating. Consult your OB so you'd know if you need to take something else or you need a break from the pills.

well, it very well may have to do with the birth control and your hormones, but once a woman has had a child they are capable of lactating at any time, if she gets started, like putting a child to breast. have you ever heard of wet nurses? this is what they do, they nurse babies that aren't theirs, and they just keep on lactating. hey if you are on a well balanced diet, you can sell your milk to hospitals so they can use it to feed premature babies.

That is actually a pretty good thought. I'm sure it has something to do with your birth control. If I were you, I would still go to the doctor and ask a professional. But you are on the right track with your thinking!

It is probably not because of your birth control. It is a termed "galactorrhea" and is actually caused by excessive production of a hormone called prolactin. This can happen normally during sexual intercourse or be caused by some medications. I would talk to your doctor about possible causes and solutions if it is bothersome.

It's the pills. I have a friend who that happened to. Just go to your doctor. They can tell you what to do. They may just change your birth control.

Someone who is very sexually active where there is a large amount of nipple stimulation can cause a woman to lactate and not be pregnant.

This is a hormonal imbalance. Since you just got on the pill, it could be the cause. See your doctor.
