Cancun is recovering very nicely. We were there 2 months ago & while damage is evident in areas most everything is back up & running, beaches are better than ever!
Many hotels, restaurants, nightclubs, etc had to be totally remodeled & looking great!
There was damage to offshore reefs that will take years to heal so if you were looking for scuba diving you may be disappointed :(
May is a great time of the year, not to crowded & nice weather.
Hope this helps!

first of all, it's very VERY hot in Cancun during May. But I was there right after the hurricane and even then Cancun was still up and functioning. A year later, I am sure it's perfectly normal now.

I myself haven't been back there since the hurricane, but I know tons of people that have been. It seems llike it's getting better and better every day, so I would think by May, you'd have no idea about the hurricane. May is a wonderful time to go...just before the big summer rush...and before the weather is to hot.
