Although I got my cartilage pierced at a Clarie's-like store and had no problems, I would receommend a professional peircing studio. It does not hurt when it is done, but the area will be sore after for some time. I've had mine for more than 12 years and it doesn't bother me at all. However, some people have it done and after a few years it is still sore. It really depends on the person.
Keep the area free of hair products, don't touch the ear with dirty hands (try not to touch at all unless cleaning), and follow the piercer's instructions for cleaning including frequency (and don't skimp on steps or products!). Also, try not to hold the phone up to that ear to talk - you'd be surprised at how filthy a phone is - and don't get it pierced on the side you sleepon if you are a side-sleeper.

Please do not go to Claire's. If you wanted your earlobes pierced I would say go right ahead but not your cartilidge. There have been cases in the past where the impact of the gun has shattered the cartilidge - that is why most salons and jewellery stores no longer offer cartilidge piercings. Go to a tattoo/piercing parlour - I got mine done and it was only 25 dollars. It hardly hurts besides a slight pinch from the clamp. You will get a ring put in at first because it's easier to clean and take care of. Make sure to follow their cleaning/care instructions, keep hair and hair products away from the area as well as you can while it heals - you shouldn't have any problems.

From what I've heard, you can't get any cartilage pierced in stores anymore. You have to go to a licensed professional (in a tattoo shop).
I had gotten mine done at Claire's and didn't have any problems, but it seems that I'm one of the lucky few. It did hurt a little. I just recently got another cartilage piercing, but went to a tattoo shop for it. It hurt a lot less.

Recently my friend got it pierced there, and it cost ten bucks. I'm sure it's not gonna hurt because I do mine myself 4 times, didnt hurt a bit, but it also depends where you're getting the piercing. If it's at the top of your ear, then good luck!! but if you're asking on your ear lobe, then nope, dont be afraid. And no, you cant regret a piercing like a tattoo, because piercings can close up.

I wouldn't go to claire's. Heck no. These are girls still in high school..they have no training, etc. Go to a professional piercing place. It's worth it and you won't spend more than 30 bucks. And no, it doesn't hurt. Just a sharp pinch and then it's done. Plus your adrenaline will take the pain away. I've got two holes in my cartilage and they are both fine. Never had any problems.

Don't do it at Claire's!! I did it and resulted in blurred vision and migraines for a year. GO to a certified piercing professional and you'll be safer and have a lot less pain. A good piercer, plus the cost of jewelry should be less than 50 bucks.

I recommend getting it done at a piercing/ tattoo place. They use a hoop and it lies flat so the earring doesn't poke you in the head when you are sleeping. Either way it does not hurt Good luck and remember to keep it clean!
