I have ordered over $500K worth of servers and workstations through Dell, IBM, Gateway, etc.
My best experiences are with Dell. They have excellent pricing and decent customer service.

get a dual core comuter that runs fast etc. but most important get a super, super monitor. all the new computers are fast as hell. the only thing about a dual core is you can rip and burn while doing other stuff. all that will reduce the chance of overload. otherwise, if you don't rip and burn, then get anything without a monitor (i prefer emachines) then get the most expensive wide and large monitor you can possibly afford. I got a dcdi bhy faroudja. it rotates and you can pagenate your own little newspaper or monthly corp newsleetter or whatever. i spent $600 and i do not regret it. some out their now just about as good for a little over $200. compare specs and pay all you can afford. you nervesand your vision is at stake. did i mention tiger direct. and also entended warranties.

Dell has the most reliable computers around. Whatever you do, try not to get a Mac from Apple.

depends on your budget..then you go from there. any modern PC will be able to handle your computing tasks, just depends on how much you want to spend..
personally I would get a desktop PC and a laptop w/ docking station. you would most likely be able to get a deal if you bought both from either Dell or Sony..
