My parents and I had this problem, but our solution was to let me go to the college I wanted to go to and since they were paying, we do it on a reimbursement basis. If I get a B in a class, then they will pay me the money I spent on the class. The first semester is the hardest, but after that the reimbursment money just goes to the next semester. If you have anymore questions feel free to contact me.

Good Luck.

You will never regret being compliant with your parent's wishes. But you may regret the fighting and bad feelings that could result from opposition. You have many years ahead of you when you won't have your parents. Ultimately you will have to follow your own instincts in this. But if your parents are paying for this then you really need to go by their wishes as you are still a dependant. What kind of parents have they been til now? Can you look back and see other times you have disagreed only to find out they were right? Regardless of what school you attend, remember there are dangers everywhere and use common sense. But it's my guess your parents are only trying to protect you from being overly exposed to the harsh realities that can plague college students.

Well... do you know what you wanna do? I chose the school I went to because they offered what I wanted to study.
Also, who is footing the bill? I had to scramble for the cash; I got no help from my parents at all. I don't regret it, I have my Master's degree and I have a good job, and I'm not complaining about the salary.

Go where you need to go depending on what your studies are.
Sounds to me like your parents want to foot the bill, however, does that college offer you what you need? Hey you are the one that has to decide that.

Nuns, priests, uniforms...sounds like a private school. I went one semester to a private university, and $$$$. You sure they can afford that???

Like the others said, you better start putting in for financial aid now, for if you decide to go where you want to go, its quite possible your parents may not financially help much??

They are probably trying to protect you. Try ordering all the literature you can on the school of your choice and sit down with them to read over what your school has to offer. List every reason why your school is the better choice - no uniform expense, cheaper tuition, etc. Maybe they will see your point of view especially if you ask them to tell you why their school is the best. Who knows maybe in the end you won't mind attending their private school!

the decison you chose will effect your realtionship with your parents forever. If you want them to respect you and your choices now and for the rest of your life, then pick your school. Be honest with them of why you are picking your school, tell them about the classes and the freedom you will have living on your own. Tell them how excited you are to gain indepence.

also reassure your folks, your not going to get drunk and end up going to bed with some strange guy and get preganant. Tell them how you are going to have fun, but that they did a great job in raising a great kid and they have to learn how to trust you.

i went away to college and I loved it. It was a great time and I would never want anyone to miss out!!

Start looking at scholarship and loan options now. You should go to the school that you want and that you know you will be happy at. You're an adult now and allowed to go where ever you want, but be prepared to pay your own way considering it sounds like your parents won't help you if you go to the school you want to. It's going to be difficult but well worth it when you graduate and get a job.

Apply anyway, and ask for lots of financial aid. Cause if your parents don't pay, and you're not declared independent, you're screwed. The federal government asks for what your parents earn, regardless of whether or not they're paying for your education.
Take your parents to visit the college, maybe the admissions staff can help convince them. Don't even humor your parents with visiting the other college though. It sounds like they'll take any suggestion of agreement and run with it. Definitely apply to the one you want. If it comes down to it, you may have to just ask your parents, do you want me to have a college education or not? Cause if you make me to the convent college, I'm not going. Put your foot down and stand up for yourself and convince them!

Follow your heart and your dreams! Your parents had the same opportunity as you to make their own choice about college. If you go to the college they picked you won't be happy because its not where you want to be. I feel your parents should be happy that you are wanting to go to college and should support you no matter what.

Who's paying? If they are, then you better come up with a good reason to go to a school other then the one they picked. If your paying, then they have no say.
