No, but groupies are always associated with rockstars. They just happen to go together. Kind of like the fashion. A rapper will only be caught dead wearing tight leather pants, black eye makeup, long out of control hair and lip piercings. A rockstar will never wear Sean John or talk about his chrome rims spinning.

No, there are different sorts of groupies, but groupies nonetheless. Academic groupies, for instance. These surround a famous academic and slobber all over him or her. Noam Chomsky groupies, e.g. NOTE: I am NOT condemning Noam Chomsky here, just giving an example.

no - you can be a groupie to anyone. at concerts, at gas stations, at your friends house. groupies are people that just follow other people around.
