You probably picked the busiest time of the year to go to Disneyland.
I would say go on 1/2/07. They will still be on somewhat extended hours 8am-11pm and the Holiday decorations will still be up. However, a lot of the local schools will be back in. It will still be busy on this day but compared to the week before it will be a lot less crowded.
A second choice would be 12/27, this is a Wed and gives you the best shot of being between people leaving who were there for Christmas and those comming in for New Years and the Rose Bowl Game. But if it is a nice day it will still be very croweded.
The longest day will be New Years Eve, it is open from 8am to 2am but it will also be the busiest.
As for advice.
1. Get there at park opening
2. Use Fastpass which is a free service that gives you a return time for specific attractions. When you return you have a minimal wait and avoid the regular Stand By Line.
3. Have fun

Tuesdays and Thursdays are definately the slower days at Disneyland. Mondays and Fridays parents are more likely to give their kids three or four day weekends to take them to amusement parks. Saturdays and Sundays are extremely crowded. I don't know why Wednesdays have always been crowded at Disneyland, but I am not exactly sure what the reason for that is.

New Years Eve would be a good day. But you never know. That day the always have a lot of entertaining things going on. Sometimes it could be the busiest because they have a big celebration but sometimes it could be less busy because people spend time with their family's. But it is always good to go on a Sunday and when its sunny.

I don't think there is a best day, maybe a best month. I would have to say maybe Tuesday or Wednesday. Cheaper for people to fly on a Thursday and then most people would probably only stay 5 days, so they would leave by Monday. If you want to know my real opinion its that you should go to Disneyland in February. It is the slowest time for them.

New Years Eve would be VERY busy! However, the fireworks and attractions are amazing. You just have to wait in long lines. Endurance will play a part that day. Have fun!
Happy Holidays. =)

In California it is largely weather-dependent if the locals show up. The least busy day is Tuesday. Do the park COUNTER CLOCKWISE. Everyone comes in to the park and turns right.

I'd say January 1 if you don't mind the Rosebowl but if you do than December 31 would be cool.
