Political correctness has its roots in Marxism, and was used by totalitarian hierarchies in order to make citizens tow the "Party Line." It is a form of Communism.

Simple, votes. Contrary to intuition, the stand a party takes on each issue facing a city/country/whatever is a complex equation that they hope will appease the most people and get them voted into office. It has little to do with their actual beliefs about what is best.
In keeping with this, the worst thing you can do is actually make this group or that group angry by saying something that could be deemed as offensive in any way. So they don't!

its' not important. people just think it is because the liberal tradition in american politics has become completely dysfunctional
capitalism has perverted free enterprise to the point that some sort of democratic or state action is needed to correct the situation
to prevent that from happening requires constant lies and propaganda, and whenever some or other contradiction that would expose all these lies becomes too obvious, it requires political correctness to establish a new truth, to paper over the contradiction in the ideology.

Political Correctness simply states that nobody can be insulted. It should be called common sense; all PC does is put Mister Rogers into overdrive. If people cannot be kind on their own merit, who's to force them to do what their parents neglected to teach them?

Otherwise you'll wind up on YouTube calling some poor asian kid a "Macaca," and get thrown out of office. Or, better yet, someone will create a web site forever dedicating your last name as sexual slang (and, again, throw you out of office).

People who buy into that philosophy think that no one should ever have to be exposed to anything that would offend them, no matter what it is.
Personally, I think that people are too easily offended and that they should not take life so seriously.

Most people don't want to offend others. They want to make everyone feel included and to redress past wrongs.
But there's a balance. I say don't go out of your wat to insult someone. But if there are problems, and we are afraid to address them honselty, then we can't solve them.

It is not and it doesn't. It is only a distraction from the real problems.

It only matters if you care about others getting their feelings hurt.
