Whichever one is closest, easiest, and safest to pull out. Sorry, I'm in law enforcement, and that's just the way I think.

Oh boy, I thought of asking this question with a "twist" a few days ago.
Let's see.... not knowing other facts about the lives of the men and the woman I would most likely save the life of the woman just because she is a woman (the gentlemanly thing to do I guess).

I am going to say I would save the man. Maybe if I could help him he would have the strength to still save her at the same time. I don't think women are more important than men. We may carry the babies, but we need their little guys to get pregnant. Besides, the whole she could be a mom theory, well he could be a dad. I grew up without a dad and that sucked.

Knowing nothing more about these two people besides their gender, I think I would save the woman. As a man, I feel I am predisposed to feeling protective of women, and I know that on a biological level women are less expendable than men, because they carry children to term. In that same vein, the man represents a sexual rival, and competitor for potential mates. Also, as a man to a man, I feel it is more incumbent upon him that he take care of himself, which is not to say that women are less capable. It is simply that men have no deep rooted feelings of protection for other men.

I would choose the man because I am a woman and it takes a man and a woman to reproduce so say we were stranded somewhere saving the woman would not be the choice for humanity.

I'd save the woman. The man should be able to save himself.

It would be the woman that i would save. The reasoning is that; more than likely she will weigh less. I am a female that does not lift weights and is not so in 'shape'. So I would think that it may be more possible for me to save a female than a male. Wow! That sounds bad!!

There will always be other factors that help make the decision. In a thought experiment your natural inclination is to think of the man as more self-reliant, a cultural bias of western society, but in life chances of success will be different and drive the choice.

It would depend if I knew them and if they were important or related to me.
If they were not related to me, I think I would try to save the one that had the most chance of living - in other words, the one that was not as close to death. That would just be logical to me. Since there would be more likelihood of being able to save that person.

Whoever i get to first or whoever is wounded, the sea takes the rest. A life is a life.
If i really need to choose. The woman. Why? i would probably think the man has a better chance to get somewhere "safer" until i can return.
