Did the employer tells you that the starting salary will be $35k annually, monthly, average out to about $35,000 per year? There are different ways to figure out what the bottom line is. It depends on how you will be paid. The most actuate way is to take the $35,000 divide it by 2080 (8 hours per day, times five days per week ,times twelve months in a year) Leap year add another eight hours. 35,000 ./. 2080 = $16.8269 per hour.
If you punch a clock everyday in and out, the above hourly rate would be true. But if you are required to work XX number of hours per week to finish a project, then you are not really getting $16.8269 per hour.
I accepted a job one time and the starting salary annual salary was in writing. I used the above calculations and I thought that for the job this was a good starting salary.. Surprise, the company started to expand, and they were not hiring any more office workers. We ended up working 50 - 60 hours per week, without any extra compensation. I said to myself they will make it up to us at the end of the year. Wrong again, they took us for granted. I started looking for a new job, and I made sure that the next job had a clause for hours worked over the average per month. We all learn through experience--I learned to negotiate a higher starting salary, bonuses for exceeding standard goals.

Generally, take an hourly rate and multiple by two to get an annual salary (rough estimate).
So, 35k per year is about $17.50 per hour

Depends how many hours you work a week. Assuming you work 40 hours a week, which is 2,080 hours a year, it comes out to $16.83 per hour, before taxes.

700 per week / 40 hours = $17.50 per hour

based on what? A 40 hour week? We can't do the math if we don't know all the variables.
