I don't think the wars are much different than the way it's been for thousands of years.
The diseases are a product of - among other things -globalization and lack of respect for animals (traded as food) kept in horrible living conditions that breed diseases. It's not completely new to us - the black plague killed a good portion of Earth's population way before there was air travel.

War: Put too many rats in a cage and they start killing each other. Also, greed, money, power hunger and stupidity are the causes of war. Testosterone may be another cause of war and fighting....Women should be in charge of everything...My own opinion!
Diseases: We are destroying the natural habitat of many species, including bacterias and viruses that naturally would not spread, but now have no where to go except inside living animals....My opinion, also.
