a lot of people say it works, so it probably helps atleast psychologically.

clinical evidence is a different story. its kinda back and forth, there have been mixed results. a lot of studies have found it to do nothing but some have found it to have drastic results so its kind of a tossup. if you want to save some money though, all zicam is is a fancy overpriced zinc supplement. cold eeze lozenges are pretty much the same thing and cost half as much.

and people have only lost their sense of smell with the zicams that you stick in your nose like the swabs and nasal sprays, the lozenges are safe. just space them about 2 hours with prescription drugs (antibiotics in particular)

Zicam really works, if you start it at the very first sign.

It's basically a huge dose of Zinc. When you get sick a Virus has infected cells in your nasal cavity and or throat. Zicam works by preventing the cells around the infection from becoming infected too. This keeps the infection small so your body's immune system beats it faster than if would unchecked.

so Zicam doesn't actually do anything to the cold, just the surrounding cells.

There have been rare cases of lost smell with the nasal spray but no more than any other nasal treatment. Zicam comes in tablets, chewables, throat sprays, swabs, etc. I prefer the tablets and chewables.

It works great if you start to take it at the very first sign of getting sick. I always keep it around, cuz by the time i get to the store and buy some it's usually a day or two later and that's too late.

Now for you, already sick and on the way back, it's really to late. They say it will help a cold already in full force, I've not had any luck at this point.

I had always used zicam and have had good results from it. Not sure if you have ever taken herbs before. You can take them in a capsule form. If I ever feel a possible sore throat or cold coming on I take a mix of echinacea and goldenseal. I can not speak for everyone, but for me they are wonderful. If i were in your case I would take about 2 capsules two times a day a few days before and after.

I Have a friend who swears by it. He uses it all the time and his colds are always gone in 2-3 days. Best Wishes!

I've used it, and not lost any senses--that I know of! :)

It worked relatively well at keeping my cold at bay. I didn't take it as long as I was supposed to, so it's probably really effective if you follow the directions closely.

However, the flavored versions(chews, dissolving tablets, sprays) are GROSS. Just get the nasal spray.

It is completely safe and all natural. The main ingredient is zinc, which is a natural supplement. I have used it, it tastes bad, but helped.

I've read and heard horrible things about people losing their sense of smell and taste permanently from using this. DO NOT USE IT!
