Depends on how well you know the other person. I've laughed at some seriously offensive things since I knew the person saying them wasn't actually a bad person. I tend to find it more offensive if I don't know where the person is coming from or how serious they really are.
For example, a racist joke from a friend I know isn't racist may be funny but if I hear it from a stranger I get a little scared and put off.

It's all dependent on how anal the person watching/listening is. For me....I think I lost the boarder under all the paint.
