I have a 2005 Chevy Malibu with 18000 miles on it that I just bought in August. Lately when I go to start it, I have to lay on the ignition for a few seconds longer than usual before the engine starts. It started late November and happened maybe 1 every 10 starts or so, but now it's doing it 1 every 5 starts. It has started everytime so far, but it worries me because I'm afraid one of these times it won't. It's not because the engine is cold either because it does it even when my car has been in the garage. Anyone know what's causing this delay in it starting?

it's your ignition switch. I don't know why, but ever since the changed the design in 2001 they've had bad problems with them. Take it to professional and I'm sure they will agree. The only thing is that it will more than likely cost you around 400.00 to 600.00 to get it replaced depending on where you go!
Good luck, hope this helps!

It may be a problem with the fuel pump check valve.
What that does is seal up the pressure\supply line after you turn off the car.
If the check valve in the pump is not seating properly, the fuel is allowed to drain back into the tank.
Then, when you turn the key on the fuel pump has to re-fill the entire fuel line, and filter.

Try this, next time you go to start it, turn the key to the "ON" running position for two seconds or so, but don't start it. That will give the fuel pump a chance to re-fill the lines and filter before you crank it over.

If the "turning over" problem is anything associated with the "starter" not engaging, it's possible the (+)positive battery connection is coming loose or is corroded and needs to be cleaned or battery replaced, Have seen lots of side-post batteries with this problem. AC-DELCO products, DIE-HARDS, etc. needs to be replaced fairly new. Seems I would take it to the dealer for warranty repairs if it was me. GOOD LUCK.

A couple of things...
One...The fuel pump may be bad. It needs to pressurize the system before the car can actually start.
Two...Bad ignition switch.

check the gas filter,it could be dirty, and needs changing, also run a fuel pump test.hook up a tester on the fuel rail,if it is low, then change the filter.also did you change the plugs and wires?
