DIVORCE!!!

I think when we start looking at marriage as an institution is what harmed it. Marriage is supposed to be done for love, not monetary or beneficial reasons as such. I have no problem with gays marrying. They love and cherish each other the same way a traditional couple do. This nonsense of the "institution of marriage" being only for traditional couples is actually quite discriminatory and makes no real sense to the thinking people of the world. People seem to still be afraid of gays and therefore don't want them to have a relationship similar to themselves, because this would make them seem somewhat normal and that's flat scary.

Divorce is probably doing more damage to this so-called institution anyway. People are getting married and divorced so often its hard to find a relationship that's lasted over five years. And with that comes monetary issues with who gets the house the car the money. And lets not forget about how good this is for the kids. They absolutely love seeing their parents break up and yell and scream and be stupid towards each other.

So yeah, a loving gay couple definitely does more damage to this "institution of marriage" than a couple who absolutely cannot stand each other and have to get divorced.

Until the past decade, it was definitely divorce and still is by a great margin, but gay marriage is quickly gaining on divorce as the most common force against traditional marriage.

In the past, divorce has harmed marriage the most.

In the future, it may well be gay marriage that claims that dubious honor, if its legalization continues throughout the U.S. and Europe at its current rate.

Divorce, family court and the welfare state have damaged marriage more. Homosexual marriage would be the coup de grace.

But if you believe that homosexual marriage has no effect upon traditional marriage, studies in Norway and Netherlands, who implemented homosexual marriage, have found a severe downtrend in traditional marriage.

I disapprove of no-fault divorce, etc. I also disapprove of the rush to radically alter the family structure that civilization was built upon and that has served humanity for millenia, without even the least amount of thought, reflection or study of effects.

Because once the genie is out of the bottle, you cannot get it back in. So rather than emotionally rush into this without a thought and then repent in leisure, let's take our time and make sure it is the right thing to do.

I WON'T be taking your word for it.

The availability of easy, no fault divorce. Years ago it was too difficult to get a divorce, then the pendulum was swung too far in the opposite direction. When divorce became just a question of filing papers with a court, the calculus of staying married changed and many people did not bother to attempt a reconciliation even where one was possible.

I believe the government and Hollywood has done more to harm marriage than we realize. Let's start with government whenever you encourage young girls to have children out of wedlock or make it more economical for 2 people with children to live together than get married because of your social policy you are actually undermining marriage.......As for Hollywood decades of showing this fantasy about marriage has left many people disillusion, most Hollywood movies go like this young couple meet, fall in love, live happily ever after. Marriage is like a cake and love is just one of the ingredients and not necessarily the most important one, they need to teach people to have a successful marriage you need shared values, self sacrifice, respect for one another and the ability to do for one another even when you do not feel like it...... A lot of people base marriage on feelings , what they don't realize feelings change from day to day month to month year to year do anyone wonders why so many marriages fail.

Not gays, they do thier own thing. Divorce destroys a marriage and a family, and often many lives. Divorce is so bad, I dont know why it is so popular. I think greed, the internet in some cases, and selfishness are big contributors to failed marriages.

divorce, of course.

how are gays going to harm the institution of marriage - by marrying. LOL

the harm comes from DISSOLVING marriages, not entering into it.

the whole gay marriage thing is SUCH a transparent ploy to the least common denominator of voter, it's hard to believe it's still going on.

It should be noted that the one who pushes for marriage will also push for the divorce. It's interesting to me that the ladies when speaking of their marriage or divorce speak of it in the singular sense, their marriage marriage or their divorce. Men on the other hand when speaking of marriage or divorce speak of it in the plural sense meaning his and his wife's marriage or divorce.

I have never heard a convincing argument on how gays hurt the institution of marriage in any way. That's like claiming that the planet Neptune somehow hurts spiders in Arkansas.
