They should also be required to pass an oral examination on the Constitution so they would know what they're going to swear to protect. And, they should be able to put together a coherant sentence that makes sense and is understandable.

LBJ, to honor Kennedy's memory, started the social programs to end poverty and hunger and racial discrimination in America. Nixon started the war on cancer. Carter won the Nobel Peace Prize for bringing Israel and Egypt a peace treaty - something that took thousands of years to happen. Carter was also a nuclear engineer. Reagan knew he could end communism by outspending them on defense, so that they didn't stand a chance competing against us in that fashion, thus bringing the end of the Soviet Union's communist control. Bush Senior successfully defended Kuwait from a takeover by Saddam Hussein. Clinton oversaw the greatest economic expansion in the United States ever. Bush Junior may not be popular now, but the Dow Jones average is at its highest level ever, and the economy is doing pretty good right now. All of these men had their faults, but all of them did good and sometimes even great things. What have you done lately? Won any Nobel Peace prizes? Become a nuclear engineer? Become the President of the United States? Its easy to criticize - now try doing their job - the toughest one in the world. Good luck with that!

Probably the same set of "unusual" psychological traits that would lead people to seek, and attain, the presidency are traits which will keep psychological historians busy for decades to come.
Nixon and Clinton, I know, both came up from nothing and fought for the highest office in the land. And both had deep flaws which ruined them, to verying degrees.
Also, the better the leader, the worse the father, some have said. FDR and Reagan have both been cited under this axiom.

The American people voted for each and every one of these Presidents. Every single one of the above named men is extremely intelligent. There is no "test" that could predict what a person will do in a political environment. There are too many factors at play. There are Cabinet members, Senators, Congressmen, etc that dictate the path the country takes.

I guess the country wants southerners to run the US carter from the south, clinton, bush and bush from the south. They'd probably cheat on the test anyhow.just like bush did on elections in florida

In order to implement this idea, we'll need to have a constitutional amendment.

I think it's a great idea. But I also think there is an infectious disease that strikes anyone who gets into politics. It's called Boobism and there is no vaccine or cure. Sad.

It's better they have the basic foundation of living human kind.
Since it is ruling and leading in guiding the survival and advancement of living human kind in planet of apes.
Not in having the blind in leading and guiding the blind going in circles in planet of apes.
