Yes. there are traits which are dominant over others.
Now as far as gender is concerned, males and females differ by only one set of chromosomes(males XY and femalesXX)
genes present on all other chromosomes have an equal effect, there is no discrimination whether it is from father or mother.
but it has been found that the Y chromosome contains very few genes as compared to X chromosome.
for example the gene for haemophilia (bleeder's disease) is found only on X chromosome.
So it is the absence of the gene in Y chromosome which makes the expression of genes on X chromosome easy.
otherwise there is no discrimination whether gene is from father or mother.

Do a search for Ky Square. There should be adequate examples of dominant over recessive traits.

The most frequent dominant trait is dark eyes but there are many others.

Any Mitochondrial DNA comes from the mothers side (and is only passed down through women to their offspring. In effect, men can be traced due to their mitochondrial DNA through their mothers side, not the fathers with exception of the matral DNA from his grandmother...a little complicated but interesting nonetheless!) but mitochondrial DNA can only support certain types of amino acid chans. Most tend to be congenital but recessive. Unfortunately, they are associated with a few dread disorders and weaknesses.

Dominant genes are carried in when certain section of the DNA helix contains an "archtype" coding sequence. Darker skin, hair, eyes and prominant physical features are usually stronger because all human DNA is coded with these traits that go back hundreds of thousands of years. Some say it's called a "throwback" when in fact it's natures way of preserving protective and practical traits in human anatomy.

A cleft in the chin or dimples...the ability to roll the tongue aren't always dominant but show up because there's no conflicting attachment on the chromosomal level.

Hope that helps!

All I know is that baldness in men come from the mother's side. If the baby comes from a mixed family then usually the baby will take after the mom. Dimples come from the dad's side. I have two beautiful grandsons with dimples from here to there and my daughter doesn't have any so I suppose they come from his side, he has one. What really matters is that the child is healthy and happy and raised well. Good Luck
