I have a DEEP passion for all three sports, and I appreciate the talent and athleticism requjred for all of them. I couldn't do that. But I think the best all-round athletes are definitely football players, particularly running backs. The strength and power you need to have, coupled with the speed, explosiveness and agility that only the best have, along with a well-developed tactical knowledge of the sport and of your position.
Look at a guy like Frank Gore, for example - he just exudes power. Show me a basketball or baseball player that looks that athletic...not to mention that fearsome. Alex Rodriguez? Nuh-uh. Carmelo Anthony? Puh-leeze.
Great question, by the way.

I agree that hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in sports. But hitting a baseball is more of a skill than an athletic feat. I've seen fat guys in Major League Baseball hit a ball. There's nothing athletic about it. I would have to give the edge to football, with basketball being a close second. The reason is that the players, other than the lineman, are just as fast and just as active as basketball players. But the difference is that football players take a beating throughout the game and throughout the course of the season.

Football players are conditioned for endurance, stamina and pysical contact. Baseball is more of a skills game. Baseball players do not need the endurance and stamina or the ability for physical contact that football players do. Basketball is an endurance and stamina sport with light contact. Football players are the most well-rounded as far as conditioning and ability. A football player would be able to adapt to basketball or baseball much easier than a baseball or basketball player would be able to adapt to football.

Ok I have to agree with Sid about it possibly being football. But I also have to say it boasts the most stupid athletes in American sports!!! I don't think that even the $$$$ make up for the injuries, but that's just my opinion!

It has to be football.
The fastest athletes become wide receivers, the strongest and quickest linebackers, brute strength in the front lines, agility in the running backs, all round athletic capability in the QB.
Some baseball players I've seen struggle to run round the diamond and baseball players, although excellent athletes in their own field, cannot boast the all-round abilities of the football players.
