Usually when my question is answered right away and I get the answer I need, then I don't wait for the "3 hours" for you to be able to vote the Best Answer, I let it slide, like you call it. About 1/2 the time.

I try not to, but I have accidentally done it twice I think. And I voted for the person I would have chosen as the best answer if I hadn't forgotten to choose.

I only let it go to a vote when none of the answers are any good at all.
people cannot pick anything good themselves.
