I don't think it's wrong. It's better then buying that sweater that they might think is really tacky and will never wear ;) My aunty usually gives me 'cash' in a Christmas card, but last year she bought little figurine type things (one was a little chest that was like..maybe two inches long and an inch wide) that open, and put the money folded up in there instead. Totally cute and a great idea. :) Maybe you could do something like that if you want, make it a little bit more..personal?
Happy Holidays!

Nope. I loved cash at that age. Adults always think its impersonal, but its great. My kids were sent cash this year from several family members. The adults kept apologizing, but my kids are tickled pink. They love spending the money however they choose.
Several people suggested gift cards, but its not safe. I recently heard a report on thieves getting gift card information off the card, then sticking it back on the rack. When a person put money on the card, the thief had the information to spend the money before the recipient got it. Money is safer. Think how badly it would suck to get a gift card and find out later at the cash register that the balance was $0.

I use to give gift cards but my own kids had trouble using them like at McDonalds. Either their machine was down, they hadn't gotten the software. Always some lame excuse.
Sometimes the AMEX, VISA & MC have hidden fees to them. So yeah I give cash, my kids got a kick out of how we attach cash to shoe laces or hide it in a pocket.
Or we gave them money tree. We folded and fan out the money, placed on suckers and had a stand for them to resemble a money tree. On the internet I learn how to fold money into different shapes, like a tuxedo.
I know certain stores that my kids love to shop so I did buy them, Target, Amer. Eagle, music store. But if they loose them, then ur out the money. Cash the kids have their own storage containers/ jars and they keep up with where they spend it. Yeap, I'm nosey I like to see what they bought.
What has been really special is both my 18 and 16 yr old tucked 10 percent into their savings. Another 5% towards charity savings. They asked me to go with them, while they contributed towards Toys 4 Tots, two families at their school who needed a helping hand and a local youth facility for kids waiting for adoption. I was suprised how much they saved throughout the yr. My son said it was pretty easy. If he got $5.00 he'd tuck a way dollar for him, dollar for charity. So he had only $3.00 so he eat many a dollar value meal instead of wonderful big combos... which he said I never counted til December. It made my husband throw daily change from breaking a dollar into a huge pickle jar. He had accured in excess of $500.00 in change.
So a small item that shows u put some thought into it with the cash is what I recommend. My own teens get a kick out of those dollar bear or other animals and I tie to their paw a money card envelope. They know I just didn't through it together. Another time it was a sand pail with toys and the sand dollar had $100 bill. It can be just $1.00 bills stapled to popscycle sticks in fan shape... use your imagination. Cash is always needed.

I don't think it's wrong. Some people might say there's no thought involved, but when I was that age I ASKED for cash for Christmas. If you do want to make it a little more personal, get them a gift card to their favorite store.
Merry Christmas!

No it isn't wrong, especially nowadays with kids having so much preference about so many different gadgets and games.
Still, there should be some traditional gift, even if its a small one, along with the dough.
Personally, I can't believe anyone would rather want some cornball gift from their parents than money.
If you're worried they'll spend it on something inappropriate- may I suggest a gift card from a store of your choice?

No, it's not wrong. That way, they get to choose what presents they want for Christmas. But the giving part about Christmas is what it's all about, so it would probably be better to just give them some presents that they would like rather than giving them money.

Oh god I hope not! We'll be unpopular if it is. Seriously though. My daughter is 16 and her opinion is you can't go wrong with cash. It doesn't take up any space, a commodity most teenagers are short of, and you can get something you really like with it. It's fun to unwrap things but let's be practical you can't get it wrong if you give cash.

no...im sure they would love the money. I personally think its better than the gift card so that they arent restricted to shopping at 1 store. but if they usually only shop at 1 store then get a gift card cause it has more of a personal touch. or at least put the cash in a card.

No, it is not wrong. I give my nieces and nephews money even earlier than that. After a certain age, toys are no longer appropriate, especially with kids today. They usually want something expensive and computerized, and who has the money to spend 200+ on each child for electronics.

It is never wrong. I know alot of teenagers that get money for Christmas. It only depends on what kind of kids they are. If they are good kids, it wouldn't matter. If they are bad kids, then you should give them anything for Christmas.
