We have a small house and lot - 1500 sq. ft. home on a quarter acre lot and since we both work and go to school full time and we travel a lot, we're interested in having a lawn service come and do VERY MINIMAL service to our lawn as often as it needs it. How much should I expect to pay just to keep the lawn mowed and edged? I have tried to get estimates, but I can't find a lawn service that will give estimates quickly and I need to know soon! I just want a ball park figure...am I looking at fifty dollars a month or two hundred dollars a month??

Depending on where you live will determine the cost. Basic law service in the DC metro area for an area about your law size is not going to be more than $80 a month for two visits by the lawn people. This is a pretty high quality job that you would expect, including mowing, trimming the edges, blowing the grass off your walkways and other small basic details that your lawn may call for.

I used to own a lawn service here in Minneapolis. I keep in touch with people and know what they still charge around here.

For a high-quality service, I think the $35-50/visit estimates are going to be accurate... so you're looking at the $140-200/month range.

If you want it cheap, the best bet is find a kid in the neighborhood who will do it. But I am told that kids nowadays don't want to make money mowing lawns anymore, haha. They'd rather just bug their parents for money. ;-) (Joking, everyone! No offense intended.)

It may seem expensive, but remember they have to drive their equipment to your place, unload, work, reload, and drive away. Even with a small yard like that it takes at least 20 minutes to do well.

I pay $35.00 to get my lawn mowed by a private guy (not a business). I have 3/4 acre of land. Call around and get prices from some of the private guys who won't charge you as much as companies will charge. My guy has been mowing my lawn and plowing my snow for about 10 years. He is reliable and does an excellent job.

Even though I don't use a service of this kind,I have a neighbour that mows lawns for payment. Where I live (uk south west) he charges £5.00 for a small lawn, for example on a house with a garden lawn that's 5 metres by 5 metres.I don't know what he charges for medium/large.

For a true professional firm you should be paying around $40.00 to $60.00 per service if you have minimal beds. This is just mow blow go. The price of fuel and labor makes this seem high but the operator has to factor in a profit margin.

For basic mowing and edging, in the summer, every ten days, $30-$40 a pop should do it. Don't pay more. They're in and out in ten minutes.

depends where you live...the going rate. in our neck of the woods, this would run you about $150/$200 a month if they came once a week.
