Denial is a defense mechanism, however it is applied for different reasons and different ways. One example is when a person refuses to acknowledge and/or accept their own responsibility.Ultimately this type of denial only shortchanges that persons own growth and maturity. Denial can also be when one suffers from an extremely painful, sudden or difficult trauma. The human coping mechanism of not being able to recall may or may not kick in. This type of denial is a protective mechanism, and eventually, it will need to be addressed to stay well pschologically and emotionally.

Denial is a shock absorber for the soul. Sometimes things are just too overwhelming to be processed in the present moment. Eventually they will surface and then we make a decision to face into the truth or continue in denial. The latter is very unhealthy.
I don't think it's the ultimate defense mechanism because when reality keeps slapping us in the face it's difficult to keep living in denial. The one that seems the most powerful and hardest to overcome is blame. A person who finds a way to blame everything on someone else or some circumstance, is locked away in a stone castle.

Denial is the ultimate defense mechanism. To deny an accusation casts doubt and throws the accuser off track...at least temporarily. For some people denial is an automatic response to buy time but denying just gets them more involved eventually drawing more suspicion toward them. Denial is a temporary escape which makes it the ultimate defense mechanism for those who care to live this way.

Denial is a state of mind that people choose to be in. They think other people are stupid and won't realize they don't want to face their problem openly. A person in denial knows exactly what they are doing. They want to drink, do drugs or whatever and just want to play dumb around others like nothing is wrong.

denial is a defense and more as in , then why the defense. for lack of understanding to be given private time to understand. Defense; I will change my own light bulb should it not give light to my walk. thank you for your offer but, i have two that do the job well. if i ask for a tool, then you may offer, yet i maintain the choice to take or leave it,

Good Q.
I offer this opinion.
Denial may seem a defense mechanism, usually a shield brandished in cowardice, and as with any armor, "CHINKS" develop inevitably.

Denial is many things, including a defense mechanism. It can be inadvertent or calculated. Fear and ignorance , self pity, self delusion, self propagation, mental blocks, and psychotic conditions all are foder for denial.

Denial with a twist of suppression could be beyond ultimate, maybe super deluxe.

i think it can be, though im not sure i would refer to it as denial in many cases, the ability to put something "out/off" your mind, in order to tolerate the intolerable,, is a survival mechanism,,

it is because its through denial that prevents a human's thoughts and feelings from being processed and channelled and it is hindering one's efforts to unleash them, as well as in the uttering of the truth
