maybe it is also taking into account the space of your operating system. as this occupies seperate space or it might be a virus.

Hope this helps.

If u right click the file /folder and open their properties , you will notice that every file and folder will have two sizes displayed on the properties . a) Size of the file/folder and b) Size on the disk . The size on the disk will always be more . Try to calculate using the size on the disk.

If you compress the files or folders you will probably save some space. defragmenting will to certain extent improve performance.
Besides system certainly has hidden files which should also should be taken into account .

Besides there would be space reserved for temporary memory allocations etc which also should be calculated if I am not wrong. More than all this there could be a virus .

There could be some hidden files as well as system files that the properties check does not always count. I would not begin to be very worried about that until you have only 1GB of space remaining. However, you could also try de-fragmenting the disk and see if that helps to reduce the amount of space that is being used.

Good luck and Happy Holidays!

You drive has the Directory Tract, Boot Record Block, and FAT tables on it and they take up space. You could also have some ldfiles that are just floating around and the only way to get rid of those is to format the hard drive.

What you have is not normal. There are always hidden files, but to the extent you mention here. I suspect you have a hidden partition. Run FDISK from the run menu to see if there is another hidden partition.

Maybe because of the programs and OS are using the extra space

These are taken up by programs and hidden files. They are part of every computer.
