Not to put a spin on it, but it is rather academic. If the school you are now attending has an affiliate overseas, the curriculum would be similar if you studied where you attend school. The advantages would be viewing another culture, another country and their customs; being exposed to another environment, people and attitudes. Also, stating that you did, in deed, attend school overseas on an application gives you more of an advantage showing you are adaptable and have exposed yourself to a different way of life with different people, different location and a different culture.

Studying overseas is a great opportunity to see the world and experience life outside of your comfort zone. It is a maturing experience that will help you to view the world and future situations objectively. Although studying abroad is more expensive than studying locally, there are many scholarships and other forms of financial aid available, and if you are interested in traveling internationally AT ALL, it is one of the LEAST expensive ways to do so (very often, you will live with a local family associated with the school, so room and board are either covered by your tuition or very inexpensive). Also, full immersion is the BEST way to learn another language!
The only disadvantage of studying abroad that I had trouble with was homesickness. You will miss you friends and family terribly, although communication is much easier now that the Internet is available in almost all major cities in the world - even developing nations. Culture shock is another factor that you will have to overcome - but I see this as part of the learning experience and something to be embraced.
If you have the opportunity to study abroad, even for a month or two rather than the whole semester or school year, I suggest you take it! It may never come around again!

I agree with the cost with being a disadvantange, and not to mention the culture shock you'll get. Advantange you'll learn a all new way of living and language. You'll learn about different people and how they tick. Overseas is a great place to find yourself as a person.
