Kidney stones develop when minerals and other chemicals in the urine become too concentrated. Over time, these crystals bind to form a stone.
There are new studies that show cranberry juice may actually help form kidney stones however Citrate Slows Kidney Stones
Studies have shown that potassium citrate supplements can slow the formation of kidney stones, but some people can't tolerate the supplements because of gastrointestinal side effects.
For those people, drinking citrus juices, which contain a natural form of citrate, may offer an alternative to the supplements.
Citrate helps prevent kidney stone formation by allowing for more citrate in the urine and decreasing the acidity of urine.
There are also new studies that show a glass of Orange juice everyday may be more effective in preventing stones like this one, Sept. 7, 2006 -- A glass of orange juice a day may keep kidney stones at bay.
A new study shows that a daily glass of orange juice may help prevent recurrent kidney stones better than other citrus juices like lemonade. I have had kidney stones in the past and since then I have cut back (way back) on caffine and milk and started drinking a glass of OJ everyday and have had no new stones. Hope this helps.

Go to a doctor. It is not uncommon for people to lose consciousness while passing kidney stones due to the pain. Hospitalization are frequently required. Stop playing doctor on Yahoo.
Pure cranberry juice and lemon juice are excellent for prevention and urinary tract maintenance. And to assist in the treatment of a minor UTI. Kidney stones are more serious. I don't know of any evidence that supports cranberry juice actually destroying the calcifications (stones) only that it helps in the prevention of calcification.

I have also heard that drinking lots of lemon juice (put in water) will help disolve and prevent a kidney stone. It must be real lemon juice to get the acid effect.

Cranberry juice is used for cystitis - it is anti-bacterial. With kidney stones you have a different issue and might need a different treatment.

cranberry juice is for bladder infections..... Kidney Stones are either passed (ouch) or the body dissolves them naturally. It will help if you drink alot of water, just to keep your kidney's "clean" and hydrated
