You ask someone what they want from you for christmas, they say they dont want or need anything, so its ok. You keep on at them and they eventually say a cd thats all they want one that got released in 2004,
problem is no shop around your area eg 15miles away has it, how far would you go to get this cd? new one is out too?
what would you honestly do its for a friend?

If it was released in 2004 you will be able to find it - forget trailing around stores, just Google it, you must have had access to a comuputer to write this. If you really cannot find it (and I would be very surprised if you can't) just buy the new one and explain that you couldn't find the other one anywhere when you give it - it's no big deal, that is really all you need to say and do.

get it on the internet, or see if the shop can transfer it to a local one if it is a chain. You can usually order a cd into a branch of a shop. I would if they wanted it that badly, but I would tell them you have tried hard to get it and ask them if there might be another cd they like.

I would ring the stores nearest to you to check whether they have it in stock, then I would make the trip down there depending on the type of friend they are: old friend, workmate, drinking buddy, etc.
I am lucky enough to have lots of friends - they are the family we choose for ourselves, as the saying goes - but there is nothing I wouldn't do for the three closest friends I've had for the past 12 years. I wouldn't go to as much trouble if I wasn't very close to someone.

Well, you pressured them for an answer and they probably said anything just to get you off of their back. Asking for something complicated is probably your friend's way of seeing if you would really go out of your way to get it; to see if you were really sincere. Do what you can to find it, if you can't then order it, let them know you ordered it and it may not come till after Christmas, but instead get them a gift card to a store they like, that way, they could get what the wanted.

GO online and type in the name of the artist and cd....find out how to order it. If it is gonna take too long...let your friend know a suprise will be coming to them in the mail...as a belated gift. Give them something small and funny to open on X-mas day.

I would have listened to them when they said they didn't want anything. Some people would actually be happier not getting gifts.
Also, when giving a gift, you should be the one coming up with something to give, not asking them what they want.....
That's completely impersonal. It's like handing them a dirty wad of cash.

you can have a store order the cd for you such as your local best buy or your friend's local best buy and just get your friend a gift card for the store so they can get it if they want when it's in stock...or best bet could be to give them an amazon.com gift certificate, they can find it themselves on there

Give them a gift voucher from HMV or similar so they can get it themselves, or some other c.d they want. I was going to suggest e-bay but you wouldn't get it in time for Christmas.
