Oh, I imagine that he CARES, but his work in this area is 99% political and 1% scientific. His "Inconvenient Truth" is more aptly titled "Inconvenient Science" because whatever science he uses is wrong, incomplete, etc.
He's another Michael Moore with nicer clothes and less weight.
Michael Crichton can run circles around this whiner.

From the speeches he has given and the various books and articles he has written, there is no question in my mind that Al Gore truly cares about global warming. The problem is he is sadly misinformed on the subject. For starters, the data that supposedly proves global warming and the methods used to gather it are fundamentally flawed. Secondly, he gives a dismissive wave of the hand at best concerning the veritable mountain of scientific evidence (most of which has been independently verified) that would tend to disprove global warming. Finally, he is expressing a huge amount of arrogance in asserting that the people of the world can solve this problem. How can you solve a problem without knowing what it is (if there really IS a problem in the first place), without understanding what is truly causing it (assuming there is a cause), and without knowing what effects our corrective actions may have? Any measures taken by the collective human race to combat this spectral idea of "global warming" could very well cause more harm than good. BOTTOM LINE: I don't think Al Gore is using global warming as a political platform, but he is proving yet again that he's not the brightest bulb on the tree by swallowing the diatribe of the environmentalists hook, line, and sinker while at the same time pulling the standard liberal defense of name-calling and belittling anyone who challenges their position with a logical argument. Liberal ideology cannot stand in the face of reason and the liberals know it, so they'll resort to any tactic they can get their hands on (no matter how infantile it may be) to lash back at their detractors.

Good Ol' Al has been actively pursueing this long before politicians got front page news coverage for doing so. Al's an activist to the true sense of the word. Now that he's in a political position (so to speak, cuz he may run for some office) it could be perceived as so. However, having followed Al on his aggendas in the past dating back to 1975, I would say it gives him great personal satisfaction in doing what he feels is a good thing for the planet, and in turn, a great justice for the people of the planet. Even the pope has to feel a little giddy once they acheive the spotlight for doing what they believe in and the news channels cover them so much.
You go Al, you Rock!

Of course it is for political and financial gain. Al Gore cares nothing for you OR the environment.
If you assume that:
a) Global warming is a threat
b) that it is caused by human activity (specifically carbon emissions)
you will find that Al Gore does *nothing* to alleviate the alleged threat. He owns two residences totalling ~14,000 square feet in area to be heated and cooled. He owns large amounts of stock in Occidental Petroleum. He burns tons of kerosene jetting around the world promoting his "global warming" agenda.
Al Gore has ZERO scientific credentials BTW. He cherry picks data from scientists that support his statements and ignores the rest.
The only real scientific consensus w/r/t "global warming" is that the average global temperature has risen about one deg. C in the last century. The fact is that the earth has undergone greater shifts in temperature in the past and will do so in the future, regardless of human activity

He cares only about his pocket book. All the political candiates which are allowed to run for president are in the same boat.
Global Warming is the only issue his little mind can contain.

He really cares about global warming. Gore was an environmentalist long before he ran for VP, and before he lost his run for presidency. It was after he left political life in 2000 that he was able to refocus on this issue.
Does it make him more famous? Sure. Will it help with name recognition? Sure. Did he make $$ from books and movies? Sure. BUt that doesn't change the fact that he cared about this cause.

He's not running for anything, so where's the political gain. The real issue is not Gore's motivation, but whether he's right about climate change. In other words, the real issue is the message, not the messenger.

Hollywood approached him. He didn't approach Hollywood. He was teaching college and wrote the book long before the movie. He has no desire to run for office. And yes global warming is true. But no one wants to listen. This planet has about 40 years left of good water. The farm lands are decreasing.
Do some reading about it. It won't be war that will destroy us it will be ourselves.
