Well first of all let's start with hardware:
- A digital camera
- And/OR a microphone

And as for software there alot of them out there you can use MSN messenger to keep in contact with him, Skype is another good one, you also can use our very own Yahoo Messenger to keep in contact and to have a video conference, all these programs I listed has Webcam enabled fonctions which lets you use your webcam. Hope this helps

This is very easy. You go to your local electronics store, such as Best Buy. They sell webcameras for $30-$120. Buy the one you want. Personally I have 2 logitech cameras, the best one being the communicator STX. It cost me about $50 and has a great picture with a builtin microphone. You bring it home and follow the step by step setup instructions that walk you through installing the software it came with. Then you download Yahoo Messenger for free from messenger.yahoo.com. Once that is done you have your son do the same and you are ready to do videoconferences with your son. It is very easy an painless! Good Luck.

Get 2 webcams ... they'll come with the software you need.

Make sure you both have a highspeed internet connection...
