My laptop has Windows 98 on it( well that what it shows) but it says that the file command .com is missing or corrupted. It was given to me so what should I do. It has a floppy drive and cd rom drive ( no usb hubs) . Also , I really don't know alot of the computer lingo so please keep it simple for the average person.

Because you are not very computer savvy I would recommend that you take your laptop into a local computer store. They will be able to either fix the problem, or install a new copy of Windows 98. I would suggest that you not upgrade the operating system to anything over Windows 2000 Professional because you will have significant performance problems. Windows 98 is a very stable build of Windows and unless you are doing a lot of work with new programs you don't need a newer version of Windows. My mother still uses a computer that is running Windows 98 and she does not have any problems because all she does is write emails and letters on it and surf the Internet.

Try installing a fresh copy of Windows 98, after saving all the important stuff on cd and formatting .
But better go to a nearby pc store that has technical support.

oh..oh...do you have win98 installation CD disk..if u have,you just put on cd drive..then you exit windows mode to DOS with clicking..START->shut down->select MS DOS .from there..change to CD ROM drive...and type D: setup.exe<-I
software will be install automatically.
