I read somewhere that douching after sex can up your possibiltes on concieving because it pushes the sperm up farther into the cervix so it can meet the egg faster... Do you think that that is true?

Douching does not prevent pregnancy and should never be used as a means of birth control. Actually, douching may make it easier to get pregnant by pushing the sperm further up into the vagina and cervix.

Douching after sex does not prevent pregnancy. Sperm have the ability to reach the uterus and travel through the fallopian tubes before a woman can begin douching. But, research has shown that douching may affect a woman's ability to get pregnant (her fertility). In women trying to become pregnant (conceive), those who douched the most often (more than once per week) had the lowest pregnancy rate. Other research has shown a link between frequent douching and having low birth-weight babies. Studies also show that douching greatly increases the chance of ectopic pregnancy by 76% and those who use commercial douching preparations have a risk increased by about 4 times the usual incidence of etopic pregnancies. Ectopic pregnancy can be a life-threatening condition. Ectopic pregnancy is when the fertilized egg attaches inside of the fallopian tube instead of in the uterus. Overall, women who douche have no significantly increased risk of cervical cancer. But those who douche at least once a week may have a significantly increased risk of about 86%. Frequency and timing of douching may influence outcomes such as when it is performed at an appropriate time in the menstrual cycle (not around ovulation) and done infrequently.

Douching is a bad idea anyway. It messes with the internal flora of your vagina. Don't douche.

Most doctors and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) suggest that women steer clear of douching. All healthy vaginas contain some bacteria and other organisms called the vaginal flora. The normal acidity of the vagina keeps the amount of bacteria down. But douching can change this delicate balance. This may make a woman more prone to vaginal infections. Plus, douching can spread existing vaginal infections up into the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries.

The link below does say:
Can douching after sex stop me from getting pregnant?
No. Douching does not prevent pregnancy and should never be used as a means of birth control. Actually, douching may make it easier to get pregnant by pushing the sperm further up into the vagina and cervix.

BUT IT ALSO SAYS.. ...
Can douching hurt my chances of having a healthy pregnancy?
It may. Limited research shows that douching may make it more difficult for a woman to get pregnant. In women trying to get pregnant, those who douched more than once a week took the longest to get pregnant.

Studies also show that douching may boost a woman's chance of ectopic pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancy is when the fertilized egg attaches to the inside of the fallopian tube instead of the uterus. If left untreated, ectopic pregnancy can be life-threatening. It can also make it difficult for a woman to get pregnant in the future.

I would think that douching after sex would make your chances less likely since it changes the acidity levels (douching is not recommended btw as it can cause infections) 'up there'. Besides, 2 days later when you would be douching everything is already well past your cervix and it is sealed shut. Whatever you then use comes right back out.
Having sex 4 times in the week that you ovulated would def increase your chances of getting preggers though!!
Good luck!

Douching is an old wives tale. You need to have protected sex to decrease the chances of STD's and pregnancy. The pill will help with reducing the potential of becoming pregnant but will do nothing to address STD's.

no there is no true to that, I think.

however, this is on wikipedia:-
Douching after intercourse is estimated to reduce the chances of conception by only 15-25%. In comparison, proper condom use reduces the chance of conception by as much as 97%. In some cases douching may force the ejaculate further into the vagina, increasing the chance of pregnancy.

Sperm can live for 72 hours. I would stop the douching altogether. In fact, it is not recommended by physicians at all unless you are treating an infection.

You can still be pregnant, but look into that douching thing. That isn't really a natural thing.
