Hi everyone- My husband and I have been trying to conceive now for 5 months. He's been tested and sperm count and normalcy is fine. I have regular periods (28 days every month) and have for my entire life. Anyway, we've been trying to conceive with no luck at all. I'm getting concerned that we're not going to make a baby at all. I'd like to stay optomistic, but if alot of time goes by, I'd simply like to know if adoption could be an option. For instance, what are the costs involved? How long does it take? What are some of the reputable agencies? Thanks for your help. I appreciate it. Happy Holidays!

relax 5 months is NOT long at all. The average couple takes 8 months and anything under a year is completely normal. My DH and I took 1 1/2 years to conceive.
Each month you only have about a 25% chance of everything lining up properly for pregnancy to occur.
(all of this is from my fertility doctor).

I know it's hard and you hate hearing it (because I did) but relaxing really does help. We had just decided to stop tracking and charting and we got pregnant the next month.

My husband and I are going through the same thing. Have you seen an RE yet? They can boost your chances or getting pregnant, but they probably won't do anything until you have been trying for a year. Five months isn't really that long, although I know it seems like an eternity. That is how long we have been trying. If you don't get pregnant in a year that is when the doctors will start worrying. Are you using OPK's, checking CM, temping?

My mother works at the hospital where I live, and they have social workers who work at the hospital. That is your best bet for adoption...get in touch of one of them if you don't get pregnant within a year, and they can give you a lot of leads that you won't get going directly through the adoption agencies. The agencies here cost anywhere between $12,000-45,000 to adopt.

HTH and good luck!

Why are you already testing for problems at 5 months? Its normal for healthy young couples to go a year without getting pregnant even though theyre trying, and most fertility specialists wont even start looking for problems until you cross the 8 month maker.

5 months is nothing. that means you've only had at most 120-180 hours of fertile time. Just that many hours. thats nothing! just five days where you had the chance to get pregnant.

Even when sperm and egg are present in the body at the same time theres only a 25% chance that fertilization and implantation will occur.

You guys need to chill out and relax. You're jumping the gun just a little too much.

I mean certainly adopt, thats an excellent thing to do, but dont go writing yourselves off just because your pessimistic and impatient.

Five onths is not a very long time. It can take years!

If I was you I would learn Natural Family Planning. By charting your cycles you can see when you are most fertile and so maximise your chances of convieving.

As for adoption, I have several friends who have sucessfully adopted having hung out outside abortion clinics wearing a T-Shirt saying 'I will adopt your baby.' This way you get to save a life too.

Well first of all relax...5mths is not long at all!! It takes the average healthy couple 3-12mths to concieve. It took us almost 3yrs to concieve our daughter. Please dont freak out because there are alot of people whom it has taken years to concieve. Your healthy and your cycle is regular and your DH's sperm count is fine....it will happen.
