You sound like a wonderful daughter! Look at the mall for a sweatshirt place and see if there's one with Andy Griffith on it. Otherwise maybe a book about Houdini, or as other people mentioned, maybe a father-daughter date, that sounds like a great idea. Being a parent myself, it would be so special if my boys took me out after planning the whole thing themselves.

Tough to buy something or even think of a gift for a dad that has everything. This is a gift that I'll bet he doesn't have and won't be expecting either. It is sure to make his eyes light up. How about naming a star after him. Although you may be out of time to get everything by Christmas. So, you could either give him something temporary telling him about the star or it could be a future birthday gift or now you know what you are getting him next Christmas.
Go to either International Star Registry or www.starregistry.com
or call 1-800-282-3333. I am sure they will be able to help you out.
They accept visa and master card, so you can place your order right over the phone.
Good luck.

If he is single and you do not live with him even if your parents are still together a great gift is a home cooked dinner , make a certificate that says this entitles you to one home cooked dinner , cooked at your house on your time the mean you want. All the cooking and cleaning is done by me , you tell me when and what and I will do it. OR you can say on Jan 7th I will be serving _____ ( dad's favorite meal) at your house at ____ pm then all you have to do is buy the food and have it ready for that day. GO to your dad's cook the meal and enjoy both the meal and the company with your dad. After dinner give him dessert and a coffee while you clean the mess!

You know there really are some people that still see Xmas as a family holiday instead of gimme gimme day. Maybe the best thing you could give him is a reminder of your life as a child or just a long visit with him. It honestly doesn't need to be(and in my opinion shouldn't be) a traditional Xmas gift

Can you make a donation of money or items in his name to a charity he supports? A collage of pictures or mementos. You can probably get box sets of Andy Griffith DVDs from old series like The Andy Griffith Show, The detective one -sorry dont remember the name of it! etc.
Is there an autobiography of Houdini you could get for him?
Good Luck
Merry Christmas

Based on your description of your Father I get that he is a very caring man that feels family is a priority. My suggestion is to get a memory book. Your local bookstore should have a variety of these ranging from a Father's Memories to a Lifetime of Memories. These books are filled with questions that he answers such as favorite childhood memory and things that he learned throughout life. I would inscribe the book with something heartfelt about what an amazing and caring man he is and how this book can help his children and future generations to understand what values and experiences made him the wonderful man and Father that he is.

If he have a pocket knife he use often. Get him a Knife sharpening kit. They usually have 2-3 type of Honing Stones and some Oil. They small stones a person can hold in their hand, maybe 3 inch X 1 inch. Not very expensive, but, it really a great gift that will last a lifetime.

Maybe a donation to the fraternal order of police for the families left behind. He sounds like the kind of man who would rather give. You can donate it in his name and put the certificate in his Christmas card. Later maybe in a week or so after things calm down you could take your daddy out for dinner just the two of you and give him what every daddy wants, a little time with his little girl just one on one. Good Luck and Merry Christmas

If dad likes spicy food at all get him a gift box/set of novelty hot sauces (like the kick yo @ss brand). Dad's get a kick out of that stuff. Clothing from favorite sports teams never go wrong. Don't dwell on his interests, it's my experience that guys with certain interests already have all ofthat stuff, or buy it for themselves (stealing a good gift in my opinion). If you dwell on that stuff it will block off your creativity and you'll become frustrated. My dad's about the same age and incredibly hard to shop for. I can relate to what you're going through.
