Always principals. For example, during the last two Presidential elections I did not vote for the Bozo even though I am a registered Republican. Why would I do this? Well both times, I was more impressed with the Vice Presidential candidates on the Democratic ticket. I thought Gore was no better than our Bush. But if a push came to shove, Joe Lieberman was a far more solid choice than that the double-standard, jerk, Cheney. Same happened in the 2004 elections. I never liked the Bozo, and did not care too much for Kerry either. However, I believed that John Edwards had substance. I don't think we have heard the last of him yet, by the way.
Like I said, I am a Republican, but my principals told me very clearly that Bush and his advisers are big liars. So I was thinking if the party that chooses liars as its leaders, does not deserve my full loyalty.

I believe in putting principles first. If I felt that a Republican candidate was less principled than his Democrat opponant, I would vote for the Democrat.

I'm amused at the party loyalists answering "principle". But maybe loyalty is their principle...

Both. I am loyal to my party because it adheres to the beliefs and values I have. I also happen to think it is the party with the most principles and they do not sell their would to radical fringe groups for votes.

Principle. I never vote straight party, and my votes are always mixed, depeding on who's running, and how they have voted in the past (if possible)
