Without other medical information, it's hard to know what your blood pressure is. A value of 197 ove ? sounds high, but could be due to anxiety at the time the pressure was measured. If this number is a routine values,
you should buy a BP machine and measure your pressure at home, and see a physician to determine what's happening,

A pulse of 77 doesn't tell much, as some people have a rapid pulse and other have a slow pulse and remember that both BP and pulse with vary with your physiological state, i.e. are you at rest or are you doing excercise.

There is a long list of factors that effect pulse rates. For example Pulse varies widely between rest and exercise, coffee is a stimulant and will increase pulse rates, pulse rates generally slow during sleep and increase slowly as the day progresses. By itself, the pulse rate you give means little. Like most other things related to health it needs to be taken "in the full picture."
Blood pressure is two numbers given 000/00. The first is systolic, the pressure from the heart as it contracts, and the second is diastolic, the pressure "in the pipes" during the relaxation phase of each heart beat.
As a rough rule of thumb, systolic pressure should be no more than 100 plus your age (for women, 110 plus your age for men). Like pulse, ones' normal systolic blood pressure has many variables including diet and health (good diet and exercise will lower normal systolic pressure), family history, and whether measured at rest or immediately after exercise. Diastolic should always be well under 100. It will vary somewhat along with systolic, but not as much and should always be significantly lower than systolic.
I am assuming that the 197 you gave is systolic blood pressure. Generally that would be considered very high. However, without the diastolic reading it is difficult to say what significance that number may have. A systolic reading of 197, by itself, is a concern and should be checked further by a medical practitioner.
The sooner the better!

Your blood pressure is normally 2 numbers There is a systolic and diastolic. A pulse rate under 100 is good for someone your age. When was your BP taken? Was it the resting rate or was this after exercise?
Normal BP for adult males is
Systolic between 90 and 135 mmHg
Diastolic between 50 and 90 mmHg

so 197 on either of the 2 numbers is very high. go to a Dr. NOW

If your blood pressure is 197 over anything, you are severely hypertensive and need immediate treatment and intervention. Normal blood pressure for an adult should be <130/<90. Lower is always better. Normal pulse rates vary, but your pulse rate isn't the problem...you're lucky to still have a pulse.

Go to the doctor or hospital NOW

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

You don't give diastolic or systolic, either way 197 is way too high for blood pressure. See your doctor asap. 77 is a good pulse rate, but seriously, get your blood pressure checked. Good luck.

To answer your question 120 to 130 systolic is a good place to be. 197 (systolic) is a little high, while your diastolic 77 is fine. You may want to monitor your blood pressure to see if it the rise in the systolic was due to physical activity or if you smoke, smoking will cause it to rise. If you just have not seen your MD recently you may want him/her to be aware that your BP is on the high side.

High BP can cause many things, stroke, heart attack are your worst case scenario. But side effect from High BP can be headache (most common), dizziness, fatigued. While he/she may only put you on a low dose of medication, you really need to have it treated. Call and talk with your doctor. I hope this helps you.
