Is it possible to retrieve copies of all text messages sent and received through a cell phone?

The cell phone is no longer in use, but there is information that I would like to have that was only sent in text format. The account was closed over a year ago.

Did you delete them from the phone or SIM card? If not, you could back them up to a computer with a data cable. If you did delete them, you'd need to be a three lettered government agency to get them back ;-)
