AOL is a virus! (this is not technically accurate, but you get my point). Try uninstalling it from Add/Remove programs in Control Pannel. Good Luck

you could try removing the software, but then you might get the message saying,
"removing AOL might make other programs not work properly"
this is what happened to me once !
I went ahead and took a chance and removed it, at first I thought everything was fine until I went to open outlook express and found that the main page to this program (email) did not open properly because when I removed AOL it also took some components that was needed to open this program properly as well, so to get around this I had to re-install AOL so that outlook express worked, so be very careful don't remove this software ( AOL ) but just leave it there and simply don't use it,
if you do listen to the other people here and go ahead and remove it then you will soon find that your copy of outlook express might not work properly, take this advice from someone who knows from experience. the warning is there for a reason.

Go to Start...Control Panel...Add or Remove Programs...Find AOL...Click Remove. If it does it again, look for the Google toolbar, or anything google that you did not put in, that was on your computer when you bought it. I had two different AOL programs in mine. I just did the above twice, plus I removed Google which was powering it. You can add Google again later if you must, but have you tried Metacrawler as a search engine? It has Google plus more.

Popups of this kind are usually generated by spyware or malware and will not go away unless you clean your computer with a good anti-spyware program. There are several that are free, including Ad-Aware, Advanced Spyware Remover, Xoftspy, and many more. Download one and run a scan of your system. You will probably get rid of it after only one scan. To prevent ANY popups from bugging you again, use Mozilla Firefox as your Web browser and forget you ever heard of Internet Explorer. Just set Firefox to deny all popups and you're good to go. I find it very ironic that Microsft would put a popup blocker in IE then sell ad space that defeats the blocker to anybody with enough cash. Thanks Bill Gates!

Try this
Start>Run>type in MSCONFIG
go to the startup tab and write down all the programs that start when you start your computer.
Then go to this list
http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php
And look for any or all that you have listed to disable such program from starting when you start your computer

Start, run, type in" msconfig" go to the startup tab. this is a list of everything that starts on your computer. uncheck the ones you dont want to start. BECAREFUL, if your not sure dont uncheck it. That would be a bigger problem.
