Well No Christmas sounds good to me...

As long as you know what Christmas is all about,

There is nothing written in stone to say that you HAVE to have a tree, or that you HAVE to have presents....

If you family is ungrateful... let them learn a lesson.

Make the announcement "Dad did turkey-day. Now its dad's turn to have a day off. If you want X-mas, than you do X-Mas!"

Save your money until you see some kind of effort. If they don't care, then buy yourself X-Mas presents After X-Mas. That way, everything is on sale and you get more. When they see all the cool stuff you got YOURSELF, maybe next year they might think differently.
And on Xmas, take yourself out to a buffet restaurant. All you can eat, no cooking, no dishes. Then come home and take back your TV. **wrap up some dirty dishes and give it to them as a gift.

my dad's Christmas card was a business card that read:
"Money's Short.
Times are Hard,
Here's your F***ing
Christmas Card"
He gave those for years. He was a very vulgar man.
Happy Hanukkah.

First of all how old are your children. If they are teenagers, you need to show them who is in charge of the house. It sounds like they are trying to be in charge and are being allowed too. In my family we have tradition, everyone gets up at 7am christmas morning to open presents within their household and then meet at a grandmothers house at 1pm for a family dinner. The women in the family (including kids ages 13 and over) have to help with the cooking, and setting the table, and washing dishes. Everyone pitches in. The men do the decorating 2 weeks before and carry all of the presents into the cars.

If in the future any kid told me to F off and they they didn't fell like doing something, I would say well too bad. Kids these days are lazy. They need to be shown whos in charge, be put back in their place, and be taught to respect famiyl traditions. I'm sure they are just in a phase right now and hopefully the phase will pass. But just push them even though they may be upset, later on in life they will thank you.

I'm so sorry you are having a rough time. Like someone else said, come have Christmas with us! I do know how it feels when you are expected to produce the whole holiday "show"out of thin air on your own with no help and very little cash. That's me in our house, and it's exhausting. But I am also a believer, and I think it's important to celebrate the reason for the season and try to have a nice family occasion. My family does not say rude things to me though, if they did I would simply quit and just have my own little celebration. So I know where you're coming from. Best of luck!

If you're old enough to be a dad, you're old enough to quit whining. Sorry you're going to deprive yourself of Christmas because NO one would help you on Thanksgiving. I'm not cooking. Just having snacks and kicking back, but definitely have a tree, presents and lights.
Sucks to be you (&your family)

Batts - Thanks for what you're doing. Sure puts things in perspective, huh? This is the first year my son hasn't been in Iraq for Christmas. My thoughts to you and your family and to your crew over there.

The time to teach kids to help is when they're small. If they were taught to respect and help out at a young age, they wouldn't be telling you to F off. I'd say you are right about not having a Christmas. They surely don't deserve one for being so disrespectful to their father.

I'm sorry your family gave you a hard time during the holidays...however it is time to create your own traditions and be happy...it took a very good friend with a very big heart to show me the true meaning of christmas...and so my new tradition has begun....Merry Christmas!!!
