My friend won't go to the doctors, so Im trying to find out some information to help her. During her period, from the day it begins she gets really bad stomach pains, shakes and is often sick up to 3 times within a few hours. I'm really worried about her, and wondered if anyone knew what could possibly be wrong. Please help!

An allopathic doctor might prescribe pain pills and something for the apparent nausea. They might also put her on birth control pills in an effort to "balance" her hormones. If they do think it's really bad, instead of helping to balance her system, they'd likely recommend a hysterectomy.

In my opinion that would be going about it the wrong way. Any "PMS" or other symptoms associated with menstruation, though treated by allopathic medicine as "normal," is a sign of imbalances, deficiencies and/or toxicity. It's likely all three.

A homeopath would likely get a thorough history of all her symptoms, even ones she wouldn't think relate. Then he/she would prescribe a homeopathic remedie(s), likely along with some mild herbal and/or vitamin/mineral supplements. These would carry with them no side effects, and would help ease the symptoms by bringing the body's systems back into balance. They might also recommend and help your friend through a session of cleansing.

In the mean time, if your friends refuses to go to the doctor but would be open to something to help soothe her symptoms, I highly recommend therapeutic-grade peppermint essential oil. If she puts a few drops in some vegetable oil and rubs it over her abdomen it can help with both the pain and the sick feeling. She can even put a drop in a glass of water and drink it to soothe her stomach discomfort. But please make sure, if you do get her the peppermint oil (or if you suggest it and she gets it), that it is of therapeutic grade. There are tons of inferior quality oils sold in pharmacies AND health food stores. Some are even toxic due to growing and distilling methods.

A really good source for therapeutic-grade oils is youngliving.org.

Please do me a favor and let me know if you choose to try it out.

I really hope this helps!

Some women don't feel any period pains at all while others go through hell every month. Fortunately it does get better as we age.

She might have endometriosis - it's a rare defect and often causes extreme period pain. Sadly there isn't much that can be done about it. But she should consider the birth control pill as it can minimise the bleeding and the pain.

So whatever answers you might get in here or on other websites your friend still needs to see a doctor. Most of them are really understanding and nice so there really is no reason to fear them. :)

Hi. I used to get the same thing in the first day of my period every second month. It's down to one particularly nasty ovary rather than both! I have tried everything and the best thing without going to the doctor is Vitamin B6, you can find it more commonly in a multivitamin, Centrum is the best. Take every day and it minimises the pain. However, if your friend goes to the doctor and asks for Mefanamic Acid (non of those rubbish period pain pills from the chemist, they're crap!) the pain should go completely. It worked for me but as I was irregular, trying to take the stuff for a week before my period was quite tricky. Hence why I go with the Centrum. Hope this helps.

I wouldn't worry too much. Some woman get really sick with their periods. I used to get sick like that every month. I would have to call in sick to work because I would vomit and be doubled over in pain, I would get all dizzy and lightheaded,....it was horrible. I went to the doctor lots of times and got lots of different pain killers. But the best thing that helped was going on the pill. I no longer have such horrible pains and my periods are so much lighter. Haven't missed anything good in a looong time because of my period. My cramps are almost non existant. And I never barf anymore with them

She should probably see if a doctor if she's getting sick 3 times in a day. Plus, if she got her period when she was 11 or younger, her pains are going to be worse than peoples who started later. But either way, I'd go see a doctor, that doesn't sound normal.

Hi i also suffer from very bad period pain. My period pain lasts about 1-2 hours. My symtoms are, vomiting, cramps, diaraha and urges to lie on floor. Women suffer from period pain because as their body gets ready to break down the extra lining on the wall of your womb (uterus) it releases hormones called prostaglandins. These hormones cause the muscles in the womb to contract and push the lining out of the vigania. A womans blood supply to the womb decreases during the contractions, so there is less oxygen reaching the uterus making the muscles cramp even more. To help relief pain i would suggest that your friend should take strong pain killers, to help with the pain. Your friend should also try taking a vitamin B6 supplement or one that contains gamma linolenic acid (GLA) such as starflower oil or evening primrose oil. Both are thought to help maintain hormonal balance.

You couldget your friend a copy of 'Fertility, Cycles and Nutrition' by Marilyn Shannon. It contains loads of great advice on how certain changes in diet and the addition of certian vitamin supplements can totally change symptoms like your friend has.

She needs to go to the OBGYN. This is not normal and just because it does go away doesn't mean that there's not something going on. I had endometreosis and had some of those symptoms . The pain is terrible! Does she get headaches? PLEASE get her to go get help. I was 32 when I had my hysterectomy due to this problem.

if your friend just started it will just happen a few more times because that is what happened with me. Plus u can also try to talk her in to going to the Doctor until she does if she didn't just start her period.

She should talk to a doctor or pharmacist. You can buy heat pads which sometimes help. The sickness is unusual
