There are huge oil reserves off the California coast. Arnold's doing a sequel, but when the next Dem is elected governor, I think we should invade California. Then it would become clearer that our interests in the mid-east are ideologically based, and we'd have to put up with less of this nonsense.

Probably not. Even though Wolfowitz, Perle, and Feith designed the war in Iraq for the benefit of israel, it was the lure of "cheap" oil that suckered in ol' Curious George.
If the US had spent one quarter of the money it has flushed away on Mr. Wolfowitz's war on alternative energy and conservation we would be a long way toward self sufficiency, which would leave little of interest for us in Southwest Asia.

Yes, it is the control of the oil that the USA desires, so that in the future it can decide who the oil is sold to, or not sold to. It is also desirable to have a puppet Iraqi government that will fall without US. support, so that if the US's wishes are not fulfilled, support will be withdrawn, the government will fall, and the US. will have an excuse to intervene again if a compliant government isn't created.
