Depends on your definition of success. I feel that I'm successful because I have a wife and 3 wonderful kids at home, we live in a safe place that's great for them to grow up in, I enjoy my job (as much as a person can enjoy work) and I make enough money to allow my wife to stay home and raise our children. I drive a beat up old truck that keeps breaking down, there are things I'd like to do to my house but can't afford, and there are places I'd like to travel to that I can't afford, but those aren't as important to me.

I think I'm better off than my parents were. I worked my way through college and paid for probably 90-95% of it myself. My wife's family helped us with a couple thousand dollars to buy our first house, but other than that, we've done it pretty much on our own.

Successful is all relative. Between my two brothers and I, I am the youngest but make more then my middle brother. Does that make me successful? Does my middle brother see me as successful? My older brother sees more potentional in me.
With all that said, 'successful' isn't all money. Being successful is more about being totally satisfied with what you do each and everyday. I love coming to work, joking around with the IT guys. Unfotunately kissing the bosses rear end from time to time will always get you a pat on the back. Lets face it, the majority of American work for someone else so get used to feeling like your a pee-on but the truth is your boss eats sleeps and drinks the same stuff you do.

Hard work, dedication, and education.

I'm not "well off" but i make a comfortable living and can afford a few luxuries. My parents are about the same... except scaled up a bit for their age and experience level. They helped me get started in college, but the last few years of it i am continuing to pay off myself.

I grew up poor. My parents gave me nothing to start. Military service funded college. After that it was a lot of hard work and trying to do my best. Now, I'm certainly not rich but I'm not poor either. My kids won't have to put themselves through college like I did and they have decent clothes to wear.

I don't know. I'm 56 and still trying. I know that it won't happen if I give up, though, and I don't even care if people laugh at this right now.
