Give them each a tree ornament. You can buy them pretty cheaply right now. Get a box of them, and write their names, or the date, or something appropriate on them. They'll have it every year and will remember you...and isn't that what its all about?

I am so tired of all the junk my kids bring home, and it really is just junk. It is wasteful and uses resources that could be better spent !! If you absolutely feel the need to give something to your riders, why not create a booklet or something like that about what New Year resolutions are, and give kids ideas about making a couple- how about how to recycle, etc, something both the kids and the parents might like. Plus, it draws on the New Years part of the holiday season and pretty much everybody "believes" in that. On the back you could write "see ya next year".
This way you are creating something, giving the kids something they can learn from, something they and their parents can talk about, you are insiring them to make a postive change and respect the earth. Try some web searches, then put a paragraph or two on a "quartered" paper, you can cut the four quarters out and make an eight page book. You can talk about how riding the bus is better than a car, and you can illustrate on the backs, some free hand will do, coppy a bunch front and back, cut them out, hole punch, assmble with twine, and give them away as your kids exit.
Focus points:
The bus - many passengers, it would take # cars to transport #of kids that ride our bus daily, this saves a lot of gas which cuts down on pollution
Water - turn off water while getting soapy in the shower, brushing teeth, washing dishes, etc
Recycle - every can, bottle etc etc
and so on.
All I am saying is if you HAVE to do something make it matter!
Happy Holidays

You are going to like this:
A bus driver in a neighboring district always wore a Santa hat around this time. His age and his white beard made it look pretty good too.
Well of course the bus company got a lot of complaints from parents ( A predominantly Jewish district)
But the Supervisor reviewed the case and just said the hat doesn't interfere with his driving so he is allowed to continue to where it..

It might sound dumb but my children love recieving their own christmas cards to put up. It makes them feel special, my children each recieved a card last year from their bus driver and they thought it was the greatest thing they wanted to hang them up in their room. If you want to add something in there with them you could always pick up a couple of coupon books from McDonalds for just a few bucks and put a coupon for a free small fri or drink or whatever in each card. What kid does'nt like McDonalds?

The dollar store has lots of neat things especially at Christmas. Maybe you could get a variety of neat things and put them in a box or basket and let each child pick one.
You sound like a very compassionate person.

Hey... I feel you! Candy is so resourceful and cheap and just plain out easy and all kids love it.
What do you think about mabye pens, pencils and paper? Or how about you make something sweet ;-)-------Cake, fudge squares, rice crispy treats... etc. That's not candy, right? ;-)
Happy Holidays!
I know whatever you do and or get them... They'll absolutely love it to death! The fact that you thought enough to care says it all! Your an amazing person. Keep loving what you do and being the best bus driver I know you are!

You could put together some really cheap craft kits, ^^i agree, check out a dollar store, you'd probably find some really cool ideas.
It's hard to know these days... it's kind of sad how you're not allowed to give out candy, but these are the precautions we have to take these days.

You could give them pencils or other school-related supplies. Check a local dollar store for such items to keep the cost low!
