Most tourists from Europe come to Florida this time of year. We are the only warm state on the East coast right now. It's 85 degrees out right now where I'm at, Sarasota, FL.
Siesta Key Beach is named as one of the top ten beaches across the nation; 7th last year, and 5th the year before. Last year, we lowered due to the Hurrican season from 2005 and all the red tide that followed. But, we really don't have red tide in the winter months.
Sarasota was founded by John Ringling of the Ringling Circus, so it is a realy artsy town, but not in the traditional tree-hugger sense. It's much more ritzy than that; more like oil paintings than junk yard art. We have museums, boating excursions (fishing guides and dinner cruises), St. Armands is a must for shopping and enjoying the weather. Depending on the Friday you are in town (1st Friday of the month, 2nd Friday, etc), you can enjoy an "Art walk", which is when all the local galleries open their doors for you to walk between them while enjoying a glass of wine or two, or Jazz at the Circle, when St. Armands puts a jazz band in the middle of the circle for you to hear while you dine at the outdoor restaurants or shop. Or, movie on the bay, where you bring a cooler for drinks, a blanket, and some chips to watch a movie on an outdoor bigscreen in front of the bayside.

California- if you visit southern california you can see Los Angeles and San Diego. When visiting LA, you can see Venice Beach, Santa Monica, Malibu and Hollywood. Then if you wanted to you could drive up or take a half hour plane flight to San Fransisco. You can also visit Las Vegas when you are there, it is only 4-5 hour drive from Los Angeles. Rent a car, take a drive along the coast of California is great - on the Pacific Coast Highway (or Route 1 I think). It is beautiful and you can start out in San Diego and make your way all the way up to San Fransisco.

It depends on what kind of holiday your looking for. I was in Death Valley in California at the start of the year and its the most amazing place I've ever been!! There's stunning scenery, fascinating natural things about the place and its steeped in history.
Have a great trip.

East Coast -except NYC- is the best and more civilized. California is full of pompous weirdos, New York is fun but people are rude, Florida is full of old bitches who have killed their husband, Las Vegas is the homeland of suckers and stupid strippers, Texas is full of stinking cows, the rest sucks. Now you can come and visit me to Galveston Texas, it is a beautiful island, and I am the nicest Frenchman living in the USA you can dream of...

New York. It's everything that you want it to be, multiplied by 100. I've never had so much fun in my life. I've been twice in the last 14 months and I'm going again at the end of next year.

south florida!!! or anywhere in florida. you can take a cruise to the bahamas or go up to orlando and enjoy disneyworld and or universal studios which has one of the best parks ever-islands of adventure. south beach, fort lauderdale, daytona, siesta key-which has the nicest sand in the country, key west. oh! everything is beautiful!
but, then again-cali is as charming as florida and bigger. just go one hour in any direction and you could be at the beach (which you really shouldnt swim in), in the mountains, in the city, or in the desert. its all beautifully amazing. or amazingly beautiful. however you wanna look at it.
