I would chose Practical Magic, which was written by Alice Hoffman. I think it is one of the best books of its time. The making of the movie was overseen by Alice Hoffman and stared Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock. Most DVDs have behind the scene footage and that would help. Even though Alice Hoffman said that her characters came to life on the screen I think the film wasn't as good as the book at all. the book was simple and believable without the super effects. The book made you believe that what was happening actually was happening because the simple beautiful myth like tale sounded like things that everyone had heard before. Like planting certain flowers for happiness. But both the book and the movie are great and the movie has a cast of stars.

Don't know how old you or what grade you're in but here are my suggestions: Sense and Sensibility, White Oleander, Little Women, The Hobbit, My Fair Lady to name a few. I enjoyed both the books and the movies to these.

My favorite book when I was a child was "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" , by Mark Twain - I used to read it over and over again. Than... I've seen the movie....
I won't tell any more... cause you've got to read the book and see the movie yourself and than make your own opinions...
Good luck!
