My wife and I have been planning on having a baby for some time now, yet we've had numerous tries without success. Recently, we were waiting for her period and it hasn't come. It's been 5 days now. We've done three home pregnancy tests, on different days, different times of day, and they have all come back negative. How reliable are these, what's the deal???

Additionally, we never used "the pill", it was condoms, and then we simply started to do it naturally. another thing is, her breasts are swollen, as she describes it. she says this always happens before her period, but only for a day or so, and it's been going on for 4 or 5 days, and she asks whether or not when you're pregnant there's profuse transparent fluid secretion, since this is happening.

Reliability dependent on the following below:
When I took a pregnancy test the first two were inconclusive that was with Equate, I got a positive response with First Response. Do you have two or more of the following pregnancy symptoms.

Symtoms of pregnancy:
missed cycle (some women continue to have spotting)
nausea
dizziness
fatigue
constant urination
tender breasts
darkened aereolas
food cravings (food, and non-food items such as dirt or styro-foam)
food aversions
unability to lay on your abdomen due to soreness
Increase of vaginal discharge (leukorrhea)
cramping in the abdominal area
swelling (water retention)
heigtened sense of smell
linea negra

A continued cycle or spotting can be implantation bleeding, and not necessarily your period. Some women experience this when the embryo attaches to the uterine wall.

Did you know that on home pregnancy tests that The ONLY reason HCG would EVER be present in your urine is if you were pregnant. A false "negative" response would only happen if you took the test too early. Meaning there wasn't enough HCG built up in your bloodstream to spill over into your urine YET. Many times an inconclusive test could mean your pregnant, it's just not enough of the pregnancy hormone in your body Yet to make dark enough of a line.

Make an appointment for a urinalysis to confirm your pregnancy, also start taking some prenatal vitamins a/s/a/p.

I might be jumping the gun here, but Congratulations!!

Sometimes when a woman really wants to be pregnant, she can have symptoms ( no period, breast tenderness, rarely fluid from nipples.) But sometimes those tests won't work on some people. My friend kept testing and it was negative. She went to her doctor and found out she was. As a lark, she took another test at like 4 months (she was showing ) and it was still negative. So go to the doctor and get a blood pregnancy test. They are much more reliable.

Generally, home pregnancy tests err on the side of false negatives. False positives are very uncommon, but false negatives are more so.
It wouldn't surprise me if her cycle was just a bit out of whack due to holiday stress.... it's very common this time of year. I'd say wait a few more days, and if she still hasn't gotten her period, head to a doctor's office. They'll be able to give you a much more accurate test.

They are pretty reliable, but not 100%. I would say the reason her period has not come, could be because of stress. Having a baby takes some time. Has she been to her doctor so he prescribe some prenatal vitamins? How long has she been off birth control? Because after you come off some birth control it can take the system awhile to restore itself.

She must have some other problem. Consult Obs/Gyn immediately for proper treatment else it may become worse.
