Yankees beat the Giants in 7 games. Willie McCovey hit a line drive to Bobby Richardson to end the game and series. It was the last world championship for the Yankees and the great Mickey Mantle. The Yankees appeared in both the 1963 and 1964 world series only to lose to the Dodgers and Cardinals respectively. They would not win another world series until 1977.

The New York Yankees. 1962 was one of the best World Series championships ever. It was well-fought, going down to the final play of game seven. When Willie McCovey smashed a line drive up the middle, it was tense. Second baseman Bobby Richardson caught it, and the Yankees were the World Champions.

New York Yankees OVER San Francisco Giants.
World Series MVP: Ralph Terry
This was the infamous Series, where if McCovey might have hit "The Line Drive" two feet higher, the Series might have been the Giants, due to the runner on second, the tying run.

It's true that McCovey lined out to Richardson (2nd base) for the final out of Game 7, won by the Yankees 1-0.
The Giants had runners on 2nd (Willie Mays) and 3rd (Matty Alou) at the time.
If McCovey's hit had gotten by Richardson, the Giants would have won the game and the series. That's what made the ending so dramatic.
EDIT: Sorry Smitty, didn't see that you included the details of the final out...good job!
